All-time Ticats team

OK, here we are, talking and talking and talking about our new GM and the tough times with the Ticats here in the Hammer.
I think we need to reflect on our club's rich history. It will remind us of better times and keep us hopeful for better times ahead. So, although it may have already been done, what is your all-time Ticats team?

Here's mine:
QB-Danny McManus, Bernie Faloney
HB-Troy Davis, Gerry McDougall (Jesse's only been here 3 years and has not played enough)
WR/SB-Rocky DiPietro, Earl Winfield, Tommy Joe Coffey, Garney Henley (Sorry Darren, only 5 years)
OL - Ellison Kelly, Bill Danychuk, Carl Coulter, Dave Hack, Miles Gorrell

DL-Joe Montford, Grover Covington, John Barrow, Angelo Mosca (WOW, what a line!!)
LB-Ben Zambiasi, Zeno Karcz, Bobby Kuntz (don't have the heart to put O'Shea here, Tiggle would have definitely been here if he played a few more years)
Sec-Less Browne, Paul Bennett, Howard Fields, Garney Henley, Rob Hitchcock

K-Paul Osbaldiston
P-Cam Fraser
KR-Earl Winfield

Coach-Dave Beckman......Just kidding
Ralph Sazio.......that's better!

GM-Ralph Sazio

Owner - believe it or not, Mr. Bob Young... the team has not been the focal center of this town for ages...a true sign that ownership has gotten us to care for this team.

Mascot - TC, I could do away with Stripes.

Your thoughts, Ticat fans?

So, Darren doesn't make it because he was only here for 5 years but Bob does?

Well, there’s method to my madness, so just hear me out. Flutie is a receiver and I had to choose from a great group of receivers (Winfield, DiPietro, Henley, Patterson, Coffey, etc…). The deciding factor for not including certain players came down to seasons played. Therefore, poor Darren missed the cut.

When it comes to owners, though, there’s slim pickings. Grant and MacDonald, Ballard, Braley? Gimme a break. There was not deciding factor. Bob has breathed new life into this franchise even if it has not translated onto the field.

Calling Zuger9... Calling Zuger9!

Sig, I hear you! LOL

I can't do better that Zuger9's All-time Hamilton Tiger-Cats Depth Chart that I have posted at zuger9+All-time+Ticat+Depth+Chart.jpg (image) . I've used that as a foundation for my Madden 2004 Ticat team with only a few modifications re personal preferences.

Oski Wee Wee,

Kerrigan instead of McManus.

  • I’d replace D-Mac with Deiter Brock… only lit up the Cats for one year, but a sweet year it was and moved on to star with the L.A. Rams.
At half-back i’d replace Troy Davis with Jimmy Edwards…again didn’t last long as a Tiger-Cat but rushed for over a grand, managed to sign a million dollar contract with Hamilton in 1977, and then went on to play a little NFL.
  • Can’t disagree with the receiving corps, or DL.
I would have left Hitchcock off the secondary… he always seemed to come in late… yes with a big hit, but always a little too late.
Punter - Ozzie. I’d have to look at the stats. Sunter managed to get a gig for awhile with the Bills. (I’m talking talent not long term accomlishment)

Coach - Sazio. No comment…I remember from 1976 on… and Bruno seemed to get the most out of his players from that time on.
Gm - Sazio… I’m not too sure about that. Zuger got us a cup where as Savio lost a a few.

Owner - Bob’s your uncle.
Mascot - TC? I don’t even consider that a mascot. Pigskin Pete is the only choice.

P=Joe Zuger
GM=definitely Joe Zuger
SB=Darren Flutie over Rocky - better hands, better deep threat

Got to find places for 2 HOFs - Hal Patterson and Tommy Grant

RB = 1 has to be Cookie Gilchrist, though he was only here 2 years.

Maybe round out your squad so number = number allowed including reserves, practice roster

Sorry as for an All Time Owner I take Hal Pal Ballard over The Care Taker any-day
He Done what Bob has not Made us a Winner.
Until Bob dose make us a Winner I vote For Ballard.

Under Ballard’s ownership, the Tiger-Cats made it to the Grey Cup championship game in 1980, 1984, and 1985, and won the Cup in their fourth attempt in 1986. As owner of the Tiger Cats, Ballard claimed to be losing a million dollars a year. In 1986, Ballard publicly called the Tiger Cats a bunch of overpaid losers. After the Tiger Cats beat the Toronto Argonauts in the 1986 Eastern Final, Ballard said “You guys may still be overpaid, but after today, no one can call you losers.? A few days later, the Tiger Cats won the 1986 Grey Cup by beating the Edmonton Eskimos 39-15 and Ballard said it was worth every penny.

He had lost an estimated $20 million over 11 seasons with the Tiger-Cats.

FYI: This is my Madden 2004 All-time Ticat team depth chart. It is based largely on Zuger9's all-time depth chart project, but it has some of my personal favourites instead. As well, I shuffled a number of players to different positions to fit the Madden positioning rubric (for example having DiPietro as a TE and Crawford as a RB since there is no SB position). Some players wind up on different sides of the field than which they played so that I could get the players I wanted represented on the field at the same time.

Unfortunately me being unable to find a Ralph Sazio clone in the coach selection. LOL

Imagine going to war every week with that crew!!

Oski Wee Wee,

Some other names to be added somewhere…
Tom Clements, Gerald Vaughn…

I think Troy Davis has to be the RB.

That’s why personally-chosen teams are interesting: everyone has their own choices.

Oski Wee Wee,

What about Ron Williams or Derrick Macadoo at RB. I have found memories of them from my youth.

Looks like a pretty Good team

I think Zuger9 did a superb job on this. He was fair to all generations of Ticat players, all eras. Too bad he doesn't come on this site any more.

KICKER #10 Bernie Ruoff !!!
Garney Henley
Angelo Mosca
Bernie Faloney
Grover Covington
Les Brown
Jessie Lumsden ( going for the full season next year)

This is proof in the pudding, Hamilton has one if not the best Alumni going. No one can touch us when it comes to the best.

When I read the first list, I was impressed. Great selections! I had just one problem. Where to fit my alltime favourite D linemen, Eddie Bevan and Vince Scott.

Who do I replace from that group of Montford, Covington, Barrow, and Mosca?

But then oski-oui-oui solved that by expanding the list to 54 names, thus getting my two guys in. Great solution.
Next step will be to make it big enough to include WR Joe Shinn.

Man o man! Just reading the names of those great Tiger-Cat's of years ago ,gave me goose bumps. Started cheering for the 'Cats in 1960,and saw prettywell all of them play!
Some of my faves were Garney Henly,Harold Patterson,Bobby Kuntz, and of course the great John Barrow! Darn near passed out when I heard he went to hogtown, gaaaagh! I forgot,Joe Zuger and Bernie Faloney. O hell!! I loved them ALL!!!
