Well… Dan Adeboboye goes to Ottawa for a 5th rounder in the 2026 draft plus a import DE prospect Andre Carter. Unless Carter is a keeper this sounds like a salary and excess a Canadian dump. Argos still have something like 36 Canadians on their roster although free agency could whittle that down a bit. With two new veteran Canadians coming in somebody had to go. A 5th rounder is better than just a release.
I would think its a “you gotta get something for him”.
He’s still got value though, and some miles left on the clock.
Yes , but in the CFL running backs are a dime a dozen and they don’t play as pivotal role as they do in the NFL
No but you still need a balanced attack and to keep enough Canadains you don’t have to make ratio based decisions.
It was pretty obvious when they signed Brown somebody was on their way out.
I doubt if Brown’s signing broke the bank. He was obviously expendable in Edmonton and if he is the Argos #1 back this year it will a step back from Carey IMO. Maybe RB’s are a dime a dozen, but good ones aren’t.
Didn’t say it was a money move but that is a possibility. Its a think in the cap era that winning a championship makes staying inside the cap next season gets more difficult.
LBer Jones released . He played well I thought a couple of years ago. Out of the lineup a lot last year. Darkangelo kind of took his job I guess and will still be still on his rookie salary so saving a few bucks there. McMannis, Ceresna and Coxie are must signs IMO. Hope these guys remember the extra money they made winning the GC and can do it again if they stick together. I wonder how much guys like Pickett and Peters got above what the Argos were offering last year.
I would also like to see Janarion Grant brought back for obvious reasons. Would be comfortable moving forward if we targeted a guy like Devonte dedmon or James Letcher Jr to replace him in FA.
From what I have read Grant was not a high ticket signing. But he doesn’t get to excited about signing until the off season is over in his mind. But I was thinking another thing that may be driving the economy kick we’re hearing about is the equalization payments the Argos are suppose to be receiving. Argos had a high number of players last year on the 6 game which doesn’t count for the salary cap. I can see the teams contributing the gate equalization funds being upset with that. So as the saying goes we’ll see what happens on that front. Maybe the suspicion was all players on the 6 game weren’t really injured (who knew lol) and was a way of meeting cap numbers. Great loop hole I guess but not if other team are helping pay for it. I guess the argument could be that MLSE was paying for the 6 game separating. I don’t know I’m confusing myself. But there does seem to be a trimming of the budget for what ever reason.
I thought Dan Adeboboye was a very average RB for Toronto. Not particularly fast. Not particularly elusive. Average blocker. Definitely replaceable. Glad we got something for him. I would have understood an outright release as well so the 5th rounder is a bonus.
I could agree with all that. I did read some where that the 5th rounder next year was conditional.
