Jackson has no potential. He's in the twilight of his career
We aren't going to be winning 15 games next year regardless of having a vet QB or not, so pinning our hopes on a declining QB is unintelligent.
And Lemon is better?
My first choice for the last several years has been MacPherson, but the Als will never let him go. Likewise Tate and the same thing for the Stamps.
Jackson and or Leak are the next best and both have humongous up side when compared to Lemon.
As the young Leak rots on the free agent Board with no takers because he just plain sucks big-time, and as Jackson lingers due to concerns with repeated injuries, we’ll see if any GM agrees with you.
So who would you say the Argo's should draft first as a priority than?
Do they need one of the many O-linesman in the draft? I would say that the O-Line is set decently, they drafted for the O-line last year.
Assuming the Argos draft 3rd or 4th there are two wide receivers (both from Calgary) available in the draft, I'd like to see one of them taken.
Three months later, and still I don't see any real receiver additions or high prospects. What gives?
PK Sam does not count though there is no harm and running him hard in camp and see if at last he steps up with perhaps some stability in his life for once too.
There does seem to be quite a few question marks with the Argo receivers. Maybe in a few months we will wonder what the worry was, but I agree there seems to be a lot of ifs.
If Spencer Watt can continue his play from last year’s final, if players like Todd Lowber and DJ Boldin can live up to their potential. If James Robinson can finally learn to get open and use his speed to advantage. Those guys will have to step up and support Copeland, Owens, Durie and Sam if the Argo passing game is going to improve.
We will have to see if new QB Steven Jyles can make a difference with these guys. I think he can.
well the brass seems to think these two rookie wr's they got are something good, but training camp is today for rookies so we will see if they are good enough to play at all by the end of the week.
I would hope to hear that the Argos are not going to hang their receiving hopes on Copeland, unproven Watt, Owens who is not a true receiver, and merely two rookies in lieu of additional guys, preferably with some pro experience, in camp to fight it out for the better.
there is a few in rookie camp...
Barker is really impressed by a guy named DJ Boldin, claiming he is "Nik Lewis-esque" and there is another import named Todd Lowber who is doing well.
Steven Turner, who was supposed to be a great addition to the team last year, is healthy after his achillies tear, and he is performing pretty well apparently, after a first day lapse.
and then there is the two draft picks, Kouame and Garder. Other posters claim Jems Kouame looked a bit better than Jebb Gardner.
I'd say right now the only recievers I would guarantee spots are Copeland, P.k. Sam, possibly Watt and Durie. We will have owens playing reciever occasionally but we need him more for kick returns.
That gives room for maybe one of the Canadian rookies and an import, maybe Lowber if Barker is so inclined.
I still don't get why, in contrast to most of the other teams, in Toronto with all that time they had they could not beef up the receiving corps.
I'll concede now that Durie has stepped up his play and is a solid complement in the mix, but there is no shortage of receiver prospects out there.
Also it's time to move on from Chad Owens in the return game and just use him as a complement in the offensive mix as they do Durie.
Owens shows poor judgement and cannot be trusted with ball security any more.
Your problem Paolo is you jump the gun.
A year after being the best special teams player in the year and after 2 games of poor performance you say we should take Owens off the kick return? Are you crazy?
Owens will have a bit more slack, and rightfully so.
The Argos have Tranks now, who by early indication is awesome, but maybe they should consider signing this guy from the AFL in Australia?
You have to see this catch to believe it; normally I would not post this from another sport, but it is just that good!:

But the guy would be worth a look as a receiver, he has great jumping ability.
I'm 50/50 now on Lemon on the point that he can't seem to endure enough. Consider however his stats last game including a reported interception with a high throw but really was not his fault, but I'll have to watch the tape. About 60% completions with 2TDs and solid yardage I'd say is a damn good game for any QB in any league.
Previously in this thread, as here in another thread, is all kinds commentary including video on what Lemon and the Toronto offence can do well:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63247&start=15#p1083937Toronto have some receiving corps there now who at least by the stat sheet look like they spread around the ball well not to forget to mention some running game without Boyd and then some.
I do like the recommendation made by one commenter to move Owens inside instead of splitting him out wide, but then again in that regard I say he should just be a backup and not one of the five.
It's not Lemon's fault folks that the defence had a terrible scheme of a three-man front with zero real pash rush, let alone apparently no ability to stop the run, and then a secondary that is bad enough as it is having to defend against Anthony Calvillo with all the time in the world to complete 83% of his passes.
The woes of the Argos are all on Barker now despite some good work on the offence that showed at least for that game.
The last successful Argo QB is home in Texas as we speak. He could be on a plane today if Argos would only swallow their pride and give him a call. I do not even have to tell you his name, everybody knows he led the Argos to a 11-1 season in 2007, the teams other 6 losses came when this great QB WAS INJURED.
Give him a call and the Argos will have a instant passing game, and become exciting to watch once again, but piano legs Barker is to much of a freakin idiot to make the call
"Great" QBs, as opposed to just "good" QBs, are able to rise to the occasion and win a playoff game, or win a crucial game at the end of the season to put their team into the playoffs. Your hero has failed, big time, on multiple occasions to do that. Ergo, he is not a "great" QB.
Heck, many were reluctant to call Calvillo "great" when he had too many Grey Cup losses on his resume (now, with 2 consecutive wins, not so much).
Barker may be an idiot, but he isn’t insane.
Say all the gaayy things you like but Bishop was the best Argo QB we have had in a very very long time. He was a fan favorite, a player favorite and Rich Stubler HC favorite. He obviously is not the favorite of a dozen or so folks that post online here from their empty lives, but they really do not matter much anyway.
This CFL fan forum has been hijacked by about a group of perhaps 100 people, that make up the rules as they go along, and only allow opinions in line with their`s. I am speaking of the entire forum as a whole not the Argo section, and it has been like this for years now.
I am finally going to sit down and write a letter (snail mail) to the CFL head office about this site and what a downright joke it is. Not because many most here do not like Michael Bishop...just the overall tone. Many die hard CFL fans here are banned or have posts removed.
My oldest brother for instance, signed up a few years ago, a moderate fan, his passion for the CFL is not what it was some years ago, but still a fan. He signed up, getting ready for the CFL season, and was Not banned, but had his first post removed, they did not like his opinion. Just the tip of the Ice burg.
Over on the Rough Rider forum, even the mention of Mike Kelly in passing is a threat of banishment, not to mention Bishop.
The mods are not fair and balanced, all opinions should be allowed, it`s really gotten out of hand. I will address my very polite well written letter to the CFL office, copy to the Commissioner as well. Am sure I will be mocked for this, but you know that will only help prove my point .
Now if the CFL forum was say not affiliated with the CFL, that would be fine to run a biased unbalanced forum, it`s a free country, but the CFL official forum should be open to ALL fans and ALL opinions, even when these opinions go against the moderators of the day.
I wish I could remove that post because it has nothing to do with the argos offence.
Yes it is true about Bishops CFL career being good and I’m sure Mike is happy also. The case in point for all CFL teams is to put the best available product (includes scouting) on the field to the best of their ability. Every team in any line of sports does this; some teams finish at the top and other teams at/near the bottom. Thus do note: There is nothing stopping Bishop from becoming a coach (apply) if he so chooses. In essense Stamponthat; it’s your choice how you feel.
