Aaron Grymes retires from CFL, takes on def. assistant, ambassador role with Elks

EDMONTON — A familiar face has returned to the Edmonton Elks.

Defensive back Aaron Grymes announced his retirement from the Canadian Football League on Friday after signing a one-day contract with the Elks. The University of Idaho product emerged as a fan favourite during his time in Green and Gold (2013-2015, 2107-2018, and 2021-2023), and was part of Edmonton’s 2015 Grey Cup championship team.

Too bad he never got healthy enough to play after that injury.

Grymes was always a force at halfback and had enough interceptions QB’s really didn’t like throwing his way.

Good to see he found a place to use his football knowledge so quickly after retiring.

Just in time to reveal what he learned from the Bombers for that back to back coming up. How convenient.

IMO that’s overrated. On Offence Winnipeg has done the same thing for years - when Harris came over it was run, run, run. Didn’t change with Oliveira. Always #1 or #2 in running attempts. And Harris always had close to, or at, the most passes thrown his way.

On D, the Bombers are having trouble stopping the run but are excellent in the back end. Teams are going to run vs the Bombers & challenge them to stop the run. I don’t think Grymes is going to tell them any more than they already know. The Bombers basically have tried to beat you with a 4 man rush & that was fine in the past. The question is, do they have the personnel to do that now? I dunno.
