Yes thanks to you and others for the BC specific info. I didn’t realize there wasn’t any other venue in BC bigger than 10,000 or so or easily expandable via temporary seating to bring the number up to say 20,000.
Yes, the real test will be to have 2 other teams play there, if the fans show up well. That would be a more positive thin.
This test was passed years ago with a preseason game sellout between Hamilton and Toronto in Halifax. Unfortunately that was way back in 2005 and CFL numbers have dropped league wide since then.
Maybe so but isn’t that also important. Let the locals see the fan enthusiasm from fellow Canadians
Yes, I agree that the Wanderers are doing very well there. That site has been around since the late 1800’s but wasn’t utilized properly.
I’m glad Martin has been successful there but it would be good to have a multipurpose facility or perhaps those Grounds + Huskies Stadium. They are literally a 15-20 minute walk from each other.
Halifax had a team in the works in 1982, it fell through a year later. We are now 40 years overdue on having a CFL team in that city.
Yes but it is good news for the economy, tourists coming in taking all the hotel rooms spending money etc.
On the other hand if only locals showed up there would be no benefit to the economy.
If it was just locals there still would have been a benefit to the economy. Remember they still had to buy the ticket, most would have bought something at the concession stands, the die hard cfl fans probably would have hit a pub or two. Public transit would have been used and I assume it’s not free back there. The hotel industry would have been the ones who wouldn’t gained much out of it. Obviously the people coming from outside would have pumped the economy a lot higher.
It wouldn’t make any difference if all the tickets were bought by locals or visitors, the home team would get the ticket sale.
Concession sales same thing, it’s the home team that get’s the sales. Beer at BMO right now is almost $12, I think that most CFL cities it’s the same.
Visitors coming in would likely be in bars and restaurants for at least a couple of nights, some locals may go to bars before/after a game but the majority wouldn’t.
BC Place gets the money from the concession stands. Beer is $5 both for the Lions and Whitecaps.
Yeah, but this can’t go on forever, if they don’t pony up it’s time to look elsewhere, Sudbury miners, Guelph spikes.
I would rather move the Argos to Guelph than have expansion there.
Good fun in Halifax , but , London Ontario and Quebec City are better options IMO
They don’t have stadiums or ownership/investors
There are a limited number of concessions that sell $5 (small) beers.
At most concessions in BC Place one would expect to pay $12 for a tall can or a “pint” of draft.
I met some Rider fans who are from Saskatchewan but moved to Halifax years ago at the game. So there must be some locals dressed as visitors from Saskatchewan
I saw lots of Argos fans in the stands too, however. We need a 10th team.
