A dose of perspective from south of the border

I have Northwestern University (Big Ten) season tickets. End Zone seats with a chairback are $220, Seats between the Goal line and 20 yard line are about $300 and those between the 20’s are $375

Northwestern is one of the least expensive Power 5 conference football tickets.

The 2nd half of my original post also dealt with the quality of play in the CFL. There are about 200 Power 5 (Big 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12 & PAC 12) conference grads listed on CFL rostersL along with conference MVP’s from the Mid American (3, Jordan Lynch(twice) Chad Spann and Dan LeFevour(twice) and Conference USA (Rakeem Cato, Marshall 2012).

A great deal of talent for what CFL franchises are asking fans to spend on attending.

Charging just $10 more per ticket gives a club $2.3 million more in revenue based on 9 games at 26000 fans per game. If they split that up with 30 veterans per club, gives each player their current salary plus $78,000 more. At $5 more per ticket $34000. The P.A. needs to make this happen next contract as it looks like it is easily achievable.

Also when the CDN dollar tanks, give the players an option to sign in comparable US dollars if they want. If they sign when the CDN dollar is at 75 cents and the CDN dollar gains 5 cents the teams earn 5% more and no one really gets hurt

But no team in the East averages anywhere near 26,000 fans per game.

You say give each player their current salary PLUS $78,000 is Easily achievable? really?
Why would teams pay players in US Dollars? that would break the salary cap.
All your ideas would be a formula for losing money. There is a reason why there is a salary cap, when there wasn’t a salary cap the league was close to bankruptcy. A $5 million salary cap for the 44 players gives each team $100k per player average and it’s up to them how to split it up.

do you think that may be due to the fact no team in the East had a stadium capacity over 24,000?
…but the Argos could potentially average 26,000 (or more) with the move to BMO this season.

and more than likely, the Cats and RB’s would have tallied higher attendance figures had their respective stadiums held a greater capacity.

Yes you may be right that’s not what we were talking about. The comment was the suggestion that the way to give players more would be to raise ticket prices by $10 times 26k.
You can’t justify it on 26k when the Als average around 22k, Ottawa and Hamilton 23/24k The potential at BMO is 26k.
The revenue is based upon what you bring in now and average crowds not on what teams could bring in “if” they expanded their stadiums.

Forget all that funny math… Paul LaPolice has received a mid six figure Income from the Bombers every year since 2010. The crazy part is that he worked for TSN most of the time. He signed a three year contact and was fired part way through the first year. He than worked for TSN so that he would not lose his pay cheque from the Bombers… Oh, but it gets better. It turns out that LaPolice isn’t alone and is the Bombers have paid atleast 2 head coaches( sometimes 3) every season for the last decade
Coaches need to be forced to join a union as well, so hat labour laws do not have to be followed(union agreements supercede) and they should have a salary cap, a Canadian rato, and unguaranteed contracts, just like the players . The millions of dollars saved could easily raise the players salary cap by 500 k.

Them prices are high but the fans are willing to pay them, you can’t buy tickets to Green Bay Packer games there is a waiting list everyone in the area buy season tickets. No individual tickets will go on sale the only tickets available is what is returned by the visiting teams. Green Bay is hardly a rich area and obviously the middle class fans are not being squeezed out, they people are paying them prices. GB has a population of only 110k even the metro area is only 160k population, football is a tradition in that area and the whole state is behind them.
They have no reason to reduce prices, it’s all about supply and demand. If fans decide to cancel season tickets the fans on the waiting list will quickly snap them up.

End of slimjims comment wont let me post more than 4 quotes wish somebody would redesign these forums.

Once again slimjim there are about 4.1 million people that live near green bay and those are the people that go. Half the town of green bay doesnt go to the game, id be surprised if even 10,000 are actually from green bay every game

70,000 out of a metro area of several million is not so bad. The ticket pricesand PSL’s (plus $50 for parking and outrageous concession prices) are pricing out most middle class fans. Fortunately 60 inch high def TV’s are making it easier to stay at home and enjoy the game. The NFL is all about squeezing every possible dollar out of their dedicated fans. I am not saying that they will one day kill the golden goose with their greed, but I have noticed more and more empty seats every year on TV.

While Green Bay has about 160K people, Milwaukee which is only 120 miles away has nearly 2M and Madison about 120 miles away has another 400K. There are nearly 6M Wisconsinites for the Packers to draw from and Wisconsin has NHL hockey and their NBA franchise has been horrible for years.

Looks like you beat me to it, every nfl team takes up multiple states and has millions more to draw from than pretty much every cfl team except the argos maybe.

And unlike here where hockey is our number one sport, there its football. Unless football became our number one sport we are never going to support it as much as they do or as much as we support hockey as a country

Hamilton couldn’t even sell out their playoff game.

What was the CFL capacity for the Rogers Centre?

what are you talking about? the ESF game was a sellout at over 24,000+
in fact, the Cats sold out all home games in 2015.

Not sure what “typical” prices are, but I can tell you that a Cal Bears game versus the Longhorns on Sept. 17 has tickets that range in price from $96 to $258. On the other hand, available Stanford tickets versus the Bruins on Sept. 24 are $33 and $63 (end zones only).

cap doesn’t change. . I wasn’t saying league minimum $54000 cdn = $54000 U.S. I was saying $54,000 CDN = $40,500 US @ a 75 cent dollar. When is low do it, dollar is high don’t do it. The automotive company I worked for in T.O. (think big CDN automotive company) made more money on exchange some years then they did on operations. They have a staff just to move money around.

26000 is league average attendance that’s why I used 26,000.

P.A. if necessary could set a league minimum ticket price during negotiations. We may complain a little bit but we all know it is still affordable and good entertainment value for the money. As our US friends have said we only pay a fraction of what they do.

Why would you want the players union setting league minimum ticket prices? What a mess that would be. And what makes you think people are willing to shell out more for tickets? Even the successful teams in the East are barely selling out, and have only been doing it for a year or two. You want to go jack up ticket prices?

The league also doesn’t have nearly enough cash on hand to be playing around with USD and CAD. While hedging currencies may work for huge companies, with tons of cash, the CFL can’t afford to be taking a risk like that. In the situation you proposed, what if the CAD dropped during a players contract? They can’t just go ask him halfway through his deal to switch to CAD. It would be an absolute disaster.

Single game seats for Penn State, Univ of Tenn, and USC range from a low of about $100 to a high of about $900. Pricing varies depending on visiting team and seat location.

now now never argue with the A-51 fellow. Everyone knows that he is NEVER wrong and is the voice of reason for all in these forums. If he says that Hamilton didn’t sell out their playoff game then he must be right…even though we all know he is 100% WRONG…again as usual. Just remember he is here to educate us all and enlighten us with his vastly superior knowledge and insight into football in general among other things. Never, never forget that there are only 2 opinions when it comes to A-51 and those are his opinions and the wrong opinions of everybody else in this forum.Oh and before I forget Tangled you asked in another post in another thread who is A-51’s brother ? Here’s a few clues for ya…Ricky…#95…Blue team…I’m sure you can figure it out  The only question I have is if A-51 is Ricky’s little brother or Ricky’s big brother…my guess is little. :stuck_out_tongue:

Those are similar to the Cal and Stanford variable prices, which can also cost several hundreds of dollars. I only listed prices for tickets that are actually available.

Understand, the three schools I listed are my Alma maters and I go to at least one game at each school every year. Your right IF there are any tickets for a game available the price spread is crazy.
I have tentatively scheduled five CFL games for this year.

Mmmmm, if what you say is true about A-51’s brother being an Argo that means he could have inside information about ticket sales and if he has inside information about ticket sales that means…oh no!

A-51 is Rickey Foley’s brother?

ah…everything makes sense now…
