TORONTO — Bettors in Ontario will be able to turn to evoke plc (888) for their sports wagering needs this season. The global betting and gaming company, formerly known as 888 Holdings plc, has re-signed with the Canadian Football League as one of its Authorized Gaming Operators, offering fans premiere gaming and betting experiences to further their CFL fandom.
Funny how the CFL endorses gambling yet blackballs a player for doing just that. I love the CFL but it seems like a double standard to me. Gambling is an addiction as is drug use and alcoholism. The CFL has programs to help players in the case of drugs and alcohol.
That’s the reality. You can dislike it but that opinion is of no consequence unless you are prepared to replace the gambling revenue out of your own pocket, which I never hear anyone offering to do.
People will always gamble and there is nothing illegal or immoral about doing so. It’s better that the profits go to the league rather than the mafia.
I agree the gambling emphasis cheapens the league but don’t mind the ads on the jerseys.
One curiousity I’ve noticed this year is that the Argos couldn’t find a single sponor for their jerseys. I don’t think it should be difficult for the franchise to find a national brand or an aspiring Toronto-based company who could give them a bit of extra revenue for some excellent brand awareness positioning (2 games guaranteed against every major market east of Montreal).
I’d say Freedom Mobile would be a terrific pick…but then there’s the sticky issue of who owns the Argos these days!
No, fans gambling on games is not the same as players gambling on their league or games.
Even gambling addiction does not compel anybody to bet on their own team or league either. They can simply bet on anything else, so that point is nonsense as well. Those are predators and not victims.
That’s why gambling is also regulated with suspicious activity monitored by law enforcement.
Figure out that reality or stuff your steaming hot crap again to equate gambling by players with gambling by fans.
It’s all great theory until the money actually shows up otherwise, which it has not, so here we are for now.
It’s how this situation is managed or mismanaged that makes the difference, with mismanagement at hand by the leagues and media no doubt and as discussed in the streaming and gambling thread.
The gambling reality is not only not going away but hitting record action every single season.
