5 Lions nominated for 2008 player awards

The local chapter of the Football Reporters of Canada has named its BC Lions nominees for the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards.

Cam Wake was a unanimous selection as the club’s Outstanding Player and Outstanding Defensive Player.

Receiver Paris Jackson earns the unanimous selection as the Lions’ Outstanding Canadian with his 73 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven TD’s.

Jason Jimenez gets his first nomination as the Lions’ Outstanding Lineman after anchoring the line from his right tackle position.

Shifty running back Stefan Logan is a unanimous choice as the club’s Outstanding Rookie after racking up 751 yards on 106 carries.

Ian Smart takes home his second nomination for Outstanding Special Teams Player in as many years.

Can't disagree with any of those selections, although I probably would have taken Paul McCallum over Ian Smart for the special teams nominee.

Wake is a lock for the defensive award and that's what he will have working against him for the MOP award. Wouldn't be surprised if the voters see it that way too and give the nod to Burris who has also had an outstanding season.

Paris Jackson will also have an excellent shot of being the West finalist. His biggest competition will come from Kamau Peterson.
