3 stats that defined Toronto's win over Edmonton in Week 3

TORONTO — It’s safe to say both offences did some damage in the Toronto Argonauts’ 39-36 victory over the Edmonton Elks at BMO Field on Saturday. A back-and-forth affair which featured five lead changes and went down to the wire also certainly delivered on entertainment.

MBT throws for 342 yards, 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s, and the Elks still can’t pull out a win.

I think once the Elks start playing teams ranked 4th and below you will see more wins than losses.

tis simple… the Elk D allowed to other O to be better than their O.

The best 0-3 team in the CFL right now.

They say there are 5-6 plays that determine winning or losing.

I can point three of them out, and they came in the last 5 minutes.

-Leake - let the damn ball go into the end zone. It’s a guaranteed start at the 40 and its one point.

-Kai Grey - needs to run wind sprints until he gets the idea that acting like some pissed off kid in the schoolyard isn’t acceptable.

  • Dublanko - you hear “how smart and what good football sense hes has” right up to when he rolls into the kicker…and extends the drive.

Cepting for da D.

Agreed, except for the roughing the kicker… They kicker was only touched by the shadow of the Elk that rushed him. He took a dive, and fooled the ref to throw the flag.
But yea, you are correct. Every loss the Elk have had this year and most of of the losses last year werr self inflicted wounds

It felt like the Elks losing had a lot to do with their position after receiving kickoffs and punts. Either balls were dropped, poorly returned or were called back due to holding. Playing out of the end zone puts huge pressure on the team. Better performance on that specialty team could easily have made the difference for the Elks. Nice to see MBT and CD hitting their strides.

Easy to be critical of the Officials when watching on TV, but the rules state the opposition CANNOT touch the kicker when he is kicking (Leg off the ground). In my opinion the officials have a very tough job and no one should argue with the call especially from their living room. Th coach does have a challenge opportunity if the official does make a mistake.

Exactly. And, like the helmet coming off the rule is black and white. Touch the kicker (which he clearly did) get a penalty unless you block the punt first.

Uncalled penalties in games go both ways so that argument is just that - an argument.

My point was that three of the 5 or 6 plays that turned the game - all came in that “we still have an opportunity to win” window.

Very good points.
I also think that is demarcation from great teams to what would called teams that don’t know how to win.
Those 5 or 6 plays, and often down to two or three plays that cause a loss… Are consistently made by teams like the Riders were the last three seasons. Last year in particular, riders went 0 for 6 for the final six games. Just winning ONE of those final six last season would had the team place into the post season. But they, as you say here somehow always did those 5 or 6 plays each game that garanteed a loss.
I hope both our teams figure this stuff out

I fully understand the reason. Still sucks for MBT, who I like.

Yes I feel sorry for the QB.

But thats part of why he’s here. To hold team mates accountable for their actions.
I have always said - its fine to make a mistake, just don’t keep making the same mistake over and over.
