In the 3rd quarter, we're 2nd and 1. We're against the wind, the score is close, we want to keep the ball and run the clock. We very much want a 1st down. We should run a quarterback keep and get our yard, but we don't. We take a long snap and loose a yard. We get a poor kick and a penalty to give Montreal excellent field position. Their possession ends with Calvillo running in for a touch down. I don't know why we'd make such a dumb call.
Excellent point. At some point we need to trust this Oline we paid so much for. How about not running sheets up the middle and moving the pocket.
Sheets has not had as much success against big Dline like BC and Montreal. I hope he does not become Cates. First down run around the outside more. Lets shake up the play calls. No more dumps to Dressler, everyone has schemed this play.
Agree with both of the above. Kinda makes you scratch your head, don't it?
Totally agree. Small things matter.
These are the small reasons why they lose. It should drive the coaches nuts.
Plain and simple..............we got beat in the trenches, both sides. We didn't get creamed by them...............but they won the trench batlle and when you're grinding out drives, killing a clock.............that is big
Its situations like this where I really miss Chris Szarka.. With a yard to go, we could hand it off to him and it was almost a guaranteed first down. No stupid shot gun draws which the Riders team seems to be so fond of even thought they don't work.. you have your fullback in any formation that isn't shot gun and you let your O-line beat they D-line and you let the biggest ball carrier on your offense plow for that yard!
Not only did we get a first down, but whenever Szarka touched the ball the crowd went crazy!

I agree, but one thing no one has said is this, Sheets is not a power back, yet they try to put him up the middle. So start making those hole else where, mix them up. Sheets see's any daylight he is gone. Don't expect him to carry for 5 more yards carring def. players.
Another thing I have noticed, this all fell apart after Jock Sanders got hurt. He was the missing piece to the Offence.
It was well over a yard to go...too far for a QBs sneak. Sheets slipped or he had a few yard gain. The call was fine, he simply lost his footing.
