2025: The CFL on TSN Production

I think from TSN’s perspective the price is right not having to pay another person. But the rules analyst isn’t in the booth with them so if you just got a Toronto based ref and put him in studio and had him watch the game with a headset on and chime in over the replay of calls/reviews it would add so much to the average fan’s understanding of what’s going on and couldn’t be all that expensive.

And a camera in the command centre. But they don’t want us to see what’s behind the wizards curtain. So CFL.

Oh please, there’s the budget excuse!
What do companies do before they hire somebody new!?
They often fire at least one other person first! C’mon!
In this case, they can easily start saving some money without firing anybody by not having two sideline reporters at any games but the biggest ones. One sideline reporter is enough.
They’ll figure out the rest too so as to bring on a rules analyst. Even the UFL has one of those!

Anyone gonna argue with one less panel member or one less suitor for a former official?

I’m struggling to recall the last time I saw 2 sideline reporters, but if they’re doing that it’s certainly excessive. I think you might have misunderstood the point that it could easily be done fairly cheaply without the need to fire anyone. Should they fire people? Maybe, but do they need to do so in order to get a rules analyst I don’t think so. It’s not going to be the thing that blows the budget.

They generally do 2 for Thursday night football early in the year, Friday night football and playoffs.

Mostly they just need more revenue so that they can do all the upgrades that we want. Hard to compete on 1% of the budget.

It’s ok to add 30 more cameras and hire 60 more people to run them. It’s ok to add some million dollar BS artists to convince every one that you are the cats meow. It’s even ok to say our balls are bigger, even if they aren’t. Although one of those BS artists would use extreme ball tolerances to compare ball sizes.

But this was your first line:
“I think from TSN’s perspective the price is right not having to pay another person.”

You misunderstood not merely my point, but the point in business, that companies find the money within quite often when they want to hire somebody else. It’s going on a whole lot now via the mass layoffs. Companies will hit their annual numbers, then come spring re-assess needs, then replace a few people for less.

The implication with which you started your comment does not wash.

And if they wanted a rules analyst by addition, they would have done it by now I figure, but yes wouldn’t it be great if they didn’t fire anybody?

But that’s often not reality, especially in recent years in the media sector no doubt.

I would be fine with zero sideline reporters and only grown ups on the panel

well i guess that leaves your favorite Kate out

Who knows, she could be reading the forum at any time this week, and then it’s look out for you!

Tell me you love your job without telling me you love your job 😃 Also I need to clear a few things up… 1) that is not a personal wind machine, it's

This is my proposal for the TSN Guest Panel during the entire postseason.
They should have a cameo appearance, unannounced, during the regular season in 2026 too, including especially at the Stampede Bowl and at the Banjo Bowl.

Ferguson and Lapo have kicked everyone else in the butt and forced them to raise their game. Sanchez is offering way more crunch now than he used to do, though the marblemouth still persists. Duane Forde and Glen Suitor have woken up from decade-long comas and started to actually provide substantive colour commentary. Muamba has also given the panel a shot of energy. I liked his halftime defensive breakdown of the ESF game.

Given your experience, why can’t you sign up for next season? Go for a sideline gig so as to get your foot in the door. Maybe the great John “Shoe” Lu can vouch for you?

They just need to be better at on field production. Less nonsensical chatter, The more professionalism and stop being so wishy-washy

Kate is the best panel host TSN has ever had. Fight me.

She is funny, smart, and hyper-articulate. No marblemouth BS, no stumbling, just sets the tone for the broadcast every time, summarizes the situation in progress, keeps the program moving smooth as butter.

I agree. Surprised at the hate she gets. I really enjoy her.

I have no problem with Kate myself, except that sometimes when the guys get a little too juvenile it becomes a little contagious
