2025: The CFL on TSN Production

The play-by-play personnel at the network has remained unchanged for 2025, featuring Rod Smith, Dustin Nielson, Marshall Ferguson, and occasionally Farhan Lalji. Colour commentary will be performed by Glen Suitor, Duane Forde, and LaPolice.

The CFL on TSN is taking a renewed approach to its broadcasts for 2025.

The network’s panel will travel to all nine stadiums over the course of the upcoming season, sources told 3DownNation, including visits to Regina and Montreal in Week 1. Kate Beirness is returning to host the panel with Henoc Muamba and Davis Sanchez filling the main roles alongside her.

Paul LaPolice will also frequently appear on the panel, though he will also perform colour commentary for one game per week. As previously reported, longtime panelist and Hall of Fame quarterback Matt Dunigan is no longer with the network.

As for Milt Stegall, who has been with the network since 2009, there is no timeline for his return

TSN plans to flesh out the panel by rotating in active players, though it doesn’t appear as though this will happen every week. Players will generally make panel appearances during bye weeks, though there may also be opportunities for in-studio appearances when players are in town to play the Argonauts or Tiger-Cats.

Friday Night Football, a longtime network staple, will have a brand new presentation featuring fresh animations, graphics, and music. One source called the scope of the production “bigger.”

Any music better be better than the Friday night intro song, with the intro otherwise with good graphics and video clips like in this edition dating back to at least 2012 before the new one in 2024, which also had great graphics and video clips.

Ah memories, including so many for me on Pirate Sports Network and on ESPN channels of those bygone days, and my how we’ve grown at Pirate Sports Network.

I found TSN’s work to be rather good overall in the opening week.

It feels to me like they prepared a whole lot better for this season than in some past years, including in particular before 2023.

Sure there were all the quirky or awkward moments, the new guy who looks like either 1970s Giorgio Moroder or John Holmes or whoever from those days in his sideline debut, but onward and upward I figure now for TSN this season.

Pending or suggested changes to the studio panel, anybody?

With conditions in place, I have proposed one of our own.

They were flat last night Thursday night here in Week 2.
Now when Kate asks a question to the panel, of course she faces the panel.
But when they answer, in the past if more than a quick response, the panelist faces the camera and TV audience.
Nope, those three were just sitting there talking to each other and facing each other.
If they are going to do that, they need the lounge chair scene and not a desk, which in my opinion is not a better look during a game instead of behind the desk engaging the audience.
Fix your panel, TSN.

I wonder if they’ll stick Dave Naylor on the set in the studio this weekend?

If so, either Sanchez or LaPolice have to go and not Muamba.

Why?

If Muamba were not on the set and replaced by Naylor with those other two,
then with Kate we would have the “Mop & Glo” or triple-bald formation on set,
which is a television no-no lest the studio show were sponsored by of course,
Mop & Glo.

Some might argue now “MISSED OPPORTUNITY!,” but Naylor would then not solve this TV problem, of course.

Week 2 was a step down for the TSN studio crew, in my opinion.

The sideline reporters seem to be coming into form, but we’ll see now if they revert to awkward segue`s, bad or awkward interviews, or talking during plays again.

John “Shoe” Lu, you are already missed, along with your hair, which of course many know has its own provincial identification card and has been known to cast its own vote.

“Mop & Glo”, too funny, never heard that about a TV crew must admit. Only in the world of sports media entertainment I suppose.
