Well deserved in my opinion. I’ve been a huge fan of his since he entered the league. Just wish he wasn’t with Hamilton
He’s been nothing short of impressive on field goals this year, going 39/44 (88%) and only missing 1 PAT across 38 attempts (97%) means his overall kicking percentage (FG+PAT) is sitting around 92%.
I would say Liegghio is average in the kickoff department. Here are the kickoff stats sorted by percentage of kickoffs remaining inside the 30-yard line;
@BetweenTheGoalposts
Would you have an opinion on the worst CFL Stadiums for wind conditions,
I would imagine THF would be one of the more difficult with the Lake effect
His accuracy is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was in his time with the Bombers and I’m happy he’s coming back. Don’t disagree with concerns about kickoff depth though - even an extra 5 yards through some technique changes is a bonus. Hopefully he works at this the way he has for field goal accuracy.
The thing I noted was that Milanovich praised the hang-time on his kickoffs allowing the coverage to limit returns. Of course, had the chips still been in use for kicks, we would actually have some data on that…
Whether that is true or not is in the hands of tha analytics guys…
Milanovich and Jones have history together and I’m sure they would prefer to see some continuity in coaching to hit the ground running at camp next year. I don’t think there will be any head coaching
opportunities in the CFL for Jones next year so for the right price/bump in responsibility (DC/assistant head coach) Jones may stick around. Otherwise I’d love to see a younger coach and local guy join the team, like when Dennis McPhee was here. Maybe Monson could be hired as a position assistant on defence and work with Jones.
Wait. If I have learned anything from this site in the last few years…it’s that when talent walks, it is because the team didn’t think they were good enough to pursue and the team didn’t want them anymore and that Calgary is never wrong in their evaluation of a player and if they say they are done…then they are done.
The player themselves never has a choice in the matters of free agency, and it is solely the coaching staff and front office that determine if a player stays with the team.
There was a time when Calgary/Hufnagel could seemingly plug and play 1st and 2nd year guys and not miss a beat when they didn’t want to overpay to keep their own free agents. But Huf has taken a step back, Dickenson is too busy being a head coach and no one has filled that personnel void. Imagine if the Stamps still had Orimolade, Wynton McManis, Jameer Thurman, Ben Sankey, Devaris Daniels…
