Nope, nothing of any wow value. The hawks were way over their he spending cap and needed to free up some money for free agency… but to gut like this, wow
The one thing I can say is last year’s squad far exceeded expectations…they were not supposed to be competitive…MacDonald was supposed to take two-three years to assemble a killer defense, something he’s apparently good at. So the team does really well, surprisingly. As gm and coach, what do you do? Keep this team intact bc they did better than expected, or rebuild like you intended and forgetabout the past pretty good season. I guess they choose the latter…
I would be shocked if the quite conservative ownership and management of the Steelers go there to pick up Rodgers, who has been a risky bet for years now.
The last starting quarterback of the Steelers whom I can remember who was a traditional drop-back passer, who also could not take a hit even if he was not a great scrambler or runner, was the forgotten Mike Tomczak in the 1990s.
And now to play in arguably the most physical division in the NFL and in all the elements all the more when in his 40s? I don’t see it.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Allen is the only quarterback in NFL history with multiple seasons with at least 25 touchdown passes and 12 touchdown runs. Last year, he broke Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas’ franchise record for career touchdown runs. His 195 career touchdown passes is second in franchise history behind Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.
I think before too long that Allen will break all of Kelly’s franchise records, but now the priority for the Bills is even getting to the Super Bowl after their very long absence since their heyday during Jim Kelly’s career.
Just too many trades/signings to follow individually so I will link an ESPN article summarizing them all. Metcalf signs with Steelers, but the biggest signing of all is Garrett staying with Cleveland and receiving the highest non QB contract in NFL history. That isn’t great news for Dallas fans as Micah Parsons up next and he might want even more.
This is a decent free-agency live tracker via CBS, and it is better than the cluttered live tracker on the NFL site, but how I wish for signed players that they would also list their respective former team.
Two days ago the Bengals invested almost $300 million in their top two receivers. Jamarr Chase is now the highest paid non QB in the league, eclipsing the record Myles Garrett set minutes before.
