Never too early to get the game thread going. Are we going to continue on the good work we did against Toronto? Will any of the non-Moose injured be available for the game?

Go Als
He seemed to suffer a hip injury late in the previous game (see 2:02:12, 2:03:08, 2:03:42, 2:04:32, 2:08:04)
I’m curious to get a status update on Alexander’s leg. He played the rest of the game but let’s hope there isn’t any residual issue.
I thought it was reckless of the coaches to leave Dru Brown in Friday when his hip was clearly not right, and likewise with DA when he was sent in clearly limping.
Athletes never admit they are bad, unless they can’t stand up. There’s a true story of Pedro Martinez in a playoff with Boston. He had thrown over 100 pitches and the coach came in and asked if he was OK. Sure. Then gave up a grand slam. In the post game interview he admitted of course he had to say that - he is a competitive athlete.
Maas
- Maas says DA’s leg is fine despite him having the wrapping on the hamstring. Preventative.
- Sticking to the run was the key. (kudos Danny for pushing for this lol)
- Said that maybe Toronto wasn’t expecting them to run on second and medium.
- Sometimes the defensive look dictates what you do on the RPO. Wants to be able to establish the LOS every game.
- Praised Gagné, not only the tackling but the blocking too. “He hunted like hell.” Mentioned Gagné going in to longsnap in the preseason rookie game.
STE
- Spoke to Danny and said he’d never had a 17-carry game until last week.
- Two days off is great to start the year.
DA
- Leg’s good. He was very scared when it happened but he’s good now.
- Liked how we stayed on the field as an offence. Only two 2 and outs and 58% second-down conversion. But there’s room for improvement.
- Our “perimeter blocking” was strong.
- On reads: admitted he left the pocket too soon sometimes, but he felt that he kept the ball out of harm’s way.
Gagné
- Didn’t realize the tackle thing until the sixth tackle when people told him.
- Every year you want to reestablish yourself.
- Is internally motivated. Says the coaches (BA and Maas) are putting a big emphasis on ST this year. So everyone wants to participate because “we’re having fun.”
- Herb notes that Gagné has done “pretty well” for an undrafted player (100 games). Gagné mentions his mom, who’s been there to support him since he was 12.
- Herb does a little mini-profile on Gagné’s career through his questions and Gagné responds nicely.
I know people in this forum dump on Herb a lot, but that was a really good and interesting interview with Gagne. He got him talking. It was the first time I’ve heard him speak English and it was impressive. In French; I’ve always found him to thoughtful, but I really enjoyed that clip. Really happy for Gagne to get the well deserved attention too. He’s such a great team guy. Teammates love the guy, I think.
First injury reports in. Callender DNP is a bit worrisome. And I’m no medical expert, but I’d expect both Ruffin and Archibald to be out for a while. Hamstring injuries can take a long time to heal. We saw that with Fajardo last year. We’ll see whether the team keeps both men on the 1-game or goes 6-game to save cap.
Mustafa Johnson DL Knee DNP
Trevon Mason DL Shoulder Full
Dionte Ruffin DB Hamstring DNP
Joshua Archibald DL Hamstring DNP
Antonio Moultrie DL Back Full
Stevie Scott RB Knee Full
Nick Callender OL Foot DNP
Cyrille Hogan-Saindon OL Knee Full
James Morgan QB Back Full
Herb’s always been good at the player profile stories, and I don’t think anyone here has denied that. But he’s got other faults that have been very apparent over the years. Both can be true.
KD Davis A secondeur ajout à l’alignement
Given that we’ve activated an American to replace an American roster-wise (Davis for Callender), I expect them to do one of the following:
- Move McGloster to LT, slide Ventrelli to RT (which he’s played before), and start either Shanks or Gibbon at RG.
- Move McGloster to LT and Shanks starts at RT.
- Roll the dice on Shanks at LT.
I know that it does not mean that he will play, but I was surprised by the addition of A LB KD Davis to the roster; could be temporary and he could be added to 1 game injury report. If they play with 1 less American OL, I would hope that A DT Mason or A DT Moultrie would rather be added to the roster than A LB Davis.
Only Monday; other changes could occur in the next 3 days.
Richard
I’m kind of surprised to see Davis activated too. If he dresses, it’s a special teams need or they want to try him in Mullen’s spot at SAM (though he’s a bit heavy for SAM so that’s a long shot). He did have a solid camp and he’s still quite young, only 25.
There could be as many as 9 players, including 6 healthy scratches, on next’s game roster; it cannot last for too many more games. Decisions, including releasing of players, will have to be made in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Richard
I have a hard time seeing Maas throwing a raw rookie into a starting role at the most important position on the offensive line (left tackle). That’s why I think they’d move McGloster or Ventrelli there first. It is quite possible Montilus activates for the game in some capacity, though.
As much as I’d love to see Richards get a turn at DE, they clearly see him as a linebacker and special teams ace. And if Harris comes off, we’d need another DL to come in (someone like Moultrie), since I don’t think we’d risk playing with only 5 DL.
