I went to my second Phillies game ever on Sunday. I am now a fan, based on a fun experience at the park, even though they lost to those Brewers again.
Also my former team is in the toilet as is Denver and too much of Colorado any more, so there’s that problem to dump. What a shame compared to the Denver and the Colorado we knew until about 2018, which was the last time I visited.
The Rockies are on track to have the worst baseball record of all time, even worse than the 2024 White Sox (also a former team, for which I dumped for the Rockies in 2018!), who won the title last September for the worst ever in the modern era!
It’s a shame for Coors Field too, which is a great venue for games.
I highly recommend going to a game if in Denver even though the Rockies suck, for you’ll score some cheap tickets no doubt.
This week’s news in baseball including Trump meddling in on the Rose situation, tariffs on baseballs, the re-opening of Tropicana Field, the progress on the A’s new ballpark in Vegas, baseball returning to the Olympics, robot umpire update and most importantly the potential for a salary cap in the next agreement after the old one expires on December 1, 2026. In my opinion being the only major North American team sport without a salary cap has ruined the integrity of MLB and frankly has made the great game unwatchable when the outcome is mostly known. I would rather have 5 seasons cancelled than continue to endure the current uncompetitive farce. Someone needs to protect the fans from the greedy owners and the greedy players.
…and the Blue Jays seem to have put away the clown shoes and circus music lately to climb 5 games above .500.
I was shocked and surprised when they won a series vs the Phillies this week.
MLB needs a mercy rule though. Teams resorting to a position player on the mound is just, well, a really bad look. Figure out how to end it gracefully…
Well this could be good folks.
Cubs at Phillies tomorrow night, and I will be there.
It’s a Mission from God too, but the details are classified for now.
I will report back on how it all goes.
Anybody else getting out to a game in June or July?
An interesting story on ranking players so far this year and their potential to make the all star team. Best in show pitcher Paul Skenes pitched brilliantly again yesterday for 7 2/3 innings to lower is best in majors ERA to 1.88, but alas still didn’t get a win. He might become the first sub .500 pitcher to win the Cy Young this year. He is picked to start the all star game for the NL for the second year in a row.
It looks like this POS has probably played his last MLB game. He allegedly rented out a then 15 year old girl by paying her mother $17,000 and then kidnapped her and used her for sexual purposes for a few days. Why isn’t this mother on trial as well? This makes the junior hockey player trial look tame.
Major League Baseball Ball Park Review
10 June 2025
Citizens Bank Park
Philadelphia
Well it was a good time last night to Citizens Bank Park here in Philadelphia after riding a party bus down to the stadium and for the return trip.
If that bus could have told us stories about its life on the way down, those bachelorette and bachelor parties especially, but I digress.
One guy brought 10-year old bourbon, and well if I messed around with that at around 5PM, I would want a nap around 6:30PM, especially after an active day already.
We were all young once, but that’s not me plus health factors and all that. Two Yuengling lagers were just fine for me on a hot day.
This was a friend with friends deal here through his company, so we had the free and full ride including drinks and what turned out to be a solid concession menu and quality food! #Winning
All I picked up was my share of the tip for the party bus driver, who was excellent.
The return trip from the stadium is extra long here in Philadelphia due to what appears to be even worse traffic than when traveling to the stadium. This is true on any day of the week!
The trip to the stadium always seems to be a better time than the return trip, for I suppose folks naturally get tired and cranky.
Anyway the Phillies pooped the bed to lose to the Cubs, so that’s two games so far this year for two losses for me. It was not looking good early on after three solo home runs in three innings by the Cubs.
Fan Tip in Stadiums
The seats that are in the sunshine by day are better at night.
Last night, we had seats in the shade under the deck by left field, which was great in the 90 minutes or so before sunset in the hot evening, but it sucks by the time you get to the sixth inning or so.
Why?
Well depending on your stadium configuration, if you are on the ground floor and under the deck in the shade, the speakers are not far from you and all the pumped in stadium noise between pitches and innings is LOUDER for you there underneath than they would be in the uncovered seats. The noise gets really old by about the sixth inning, especially when your team is not winning.
Review and Score
The Phillies decided to send me a survey today. Maybe they send one to everybody for all I know. I gave them a 7 out of 10 for this game day experience once at the park, and cited the excess noise, even by loud stadium standards, in my location. My last experience only 9 days before was a 9 out of 10. That’s the difference that your seat can make.
These are big enough problems here that I turn a deaf ear on any expansion talk lately.
I don’t think the Pirates belong in this conversation though.
The A’s do though - that situation to move to Las Vegas is far from resolved.
Yeah the Pirates shouldn’t be in the conversation and he says as much. Having the best pitcher on the planet helps your future immensely. Their fans sure want a different owner though.
