Really interesting story on the authentication process in baseball for the hall of fame, fans and sports card companies. I had no idea it was this involved with two authenticators present at every game. It’s a booming industry and I expect baseball is far ahead of any other sport on the planet when it comes to this. The holograms they use are wild and are even placed on jars of dirt. Fraud and fakes are rampant as the collectibles industry is worth about $30 billion annually.
Following up on this story, the one of a kind Paul Skenes rookie card sold at auction for $1.11 million. As the story goes, the one of a kind card was received by a young boy and apparently was his only Christmas present. Not sure if I believe this duplicate Willy Wonka story. In any event, the price of the card could very well turn out to be a bargain, as long as Skenes stays healthy. He is arguably already the best pitcher on the planet and is only 22.
Hooray, hooray
MLB starts today!
Go Pirates!
Love the game, hate the league. Wake me up when the Dodgers win again or if they lose, in which case I will be interested in the outcome of the season for a change.
Skookum comeback by the Mariners,
Oakland 2
Seattle 4
Don’t know why, but this is bugging me.
Announcers and commentators always, always, refer to pitches that just barely touch the edge of the strike zone, inside or outside, as being on “the corner”.
But. . . if a pitch touches the edge of the strike zone, but is about half way between the top and the bottom of the zone, it isn’t on any corner at all.
Listening to Shulman and Martinez today, I’ve lost count of how often they say ‘the corner’ when the ball is nowhere close to any ‘corner’.
Silly pet peeve I know. . .
Yankees with cheater/legal bats
Where a 2 strike foul tip is way better than a swing and a miss 3rd swing strikeout
I’m surprised that no one has thought of this sooner.
Aaron Judge hit 3 homers and 8 RBI’s in a game without using the new bat and has no plans to use it.
It’s too early to tell whether this bat provides an advantage or not. The sample is too small. We’ll see.
It’s done finally
I have been following the torpedo bat goings on for the last couple of weeks and thought I would post some stories regarding same. Still too early to tell how ubiquitous use of this bat will become.
Tragedy in the Dominican Republic. This morning the article stated that Dotel was found alive, but obviously he had mortal injuries.
You know I will always be on the Paul Skenes watch, who just had another ho hum win giving up one earned run in 6 innings. The tidibit here though is what occurred for the first time in major league history last night.
An interesting article on Paul Skenes. This guy is so down to earth and humble. He’s the real deal.
