If we pick well, those are four very good players will get in the early rounds. We’ve done well in the top rounds and the late rounds, but the middle rounds we are more sketchy at. With this many draft picks I expect us to take some swings on NFL players and also pick a couple of guys going back to school. Think it means some of our older and on the bubble players won’t be brought back in favor of younger cheaper talent.

I expect we will see Sutherland at camp next year to, that will be another addition to Canadian content. he will immediately improve special teams.

Yeah they will have to be very strategic in who they draft because that is potentially a lot of players at camp. If I were guys like Chagnon, I’d be worried.

I expect them to draft Jonathan Sénécal

If Sutherland joins the team, is there another franchise in the league that can touch our Canadian linebacker quality? Sutherland, Richards, and Cantin-Arku would make one hell of a trio.

Auclair is also a pending free agent. who might be interested in playing in Montreal.

How many LBs can they play at one time?

Unless we are going to play a 2-5, we are already loaded at LB, a position where we don’t even start Canadians.

Granted, GCA basically platooned as a starter this year with a DL, but your point is still valid. We can’t field a defence composed entirely of linebackers, no matter how good they are!

This is apparently already a given.

Winnipeg is also to again receive a bonus pick at the end of the second round — currently either 18th or 19th — for being one of two teams with the highest percentage of Canadian snaps in 2024.

How could they possibly know that so far? Isn’t there an audit. I think this thing, giving the extra pick is a bit silly. On the surface of it it makes sense as a reward, but I really disagree that teams like Winnipeg and B.C., who were both over the cap last year, should get a reward with an extra pick. You could argue that it should go to the teams that had the least amount of Canadians used to strengthen their Canada content and help to level the playing field. This year B.C. could lose its 1St round pick for being over the cap but gain another pick for using the most Canadians. That seems dumb to me.

Winnipeg’s been taking advantage of that idiotic loophole for a couple of years now.

Definitely doesn’t make sense if you’re over the cap. You’re basically buying a draft pick.

I think the concept was initiated as some sort of concession to the PA.

I have no problem with giving two teams extra picks for having the most use of “Canadians” … but teams should be disqualified if they go over the cap … simple solution.

Yep, I am 100% in agreement.

That’s the whole issue, of course. Nothing wrong with being rewarded for playing more Canadians IF you’re not going over the cap. Rewarding teams for extra Canadians when they go over the cap simply encourages them to continue going over the cap.
