So far I’ve been 3-1 each week - can I make it a perfect week? Not sure about the Elks - that might be the the fly in the ointment.

Edmonton seems to be the choice pick . I have Chosen Faith in Ottawa to get the win.

Well, there are a few people who picked the Stamps. Congrats to them.

However, not only did the rest of us end up with a loss, but we also took a minus 21 in the point differential. Nasty start to the week. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That didn’t age well… I’ve also have been 3-1 in each of the first 4 Weeks. One of us will lose that bragging right after Friday’s game, I choose Argos and you have the cats.

Looks like :bombers: is the first fly in the ointment.

They were for me.

Let’s try this again without editing…
Last pick is…
:redblacks: Downtown Dru Brown throwing it 300+ all the way to Gatineau!

Holy cow! Is Stamps really that good or Bombers getting old? Stamps receivers looked top-notch, and against a good defense.

FWIW, 10 people (19%) and 5 “experts” (33%) chose Calgary.

I think it was a trap game and not reflective of how old each team is.

Calgary:

  • Coming off a bye
  • Super motivated given how they lost to Ottawa and facing an undefeated Bombers team
  • Extra fans from the Stampede
  • VA was the last QB to have Winnipeg’s number in the regular season in 2023.

Winnipeg:

  • Undefeated team unlikely to finish 18-0
  • Not sure what the record is for back-to-back sweeps, but they already swept BC this season.
  • They weren’t as clinical against Edmonton like some people have in their heads.

Of course, I recruited Maggie the Monkey as I was also wavering on this pick quite a bit. My fantasy team bit the bullet hard as I picked Winnipeg D, Collaros, Oliveira, and Wheatfall.

This is the main reason I picked Calgary.

I thought Edmonton showed really good counter-strategies against the Bombers, and Calgary coming off a bye would be able to see them and prepare accordingly.

Sounds like a stretch. How about simplifying it to: Winnipeg played a crap game and Calgary played like champs? Winnipeg may not have many blowouts in recent times but they’re capable of playing bad football aka first half of 2024. And Calgary wasn’t going to stay down 3 years in a row.

Agree with that. Winnipeg is still a very good team, but no one said they were going to win every game or that they were the undisputed by far best team in the league as they were a few years ago. In fact I don’t think you can say that any team is the undisputed best team in the league at this point. losses also have a way of galvanizing good teams. We’ll see.

Calgary also can’t be considered the best team at present or even a consistently good team as of yet. They are certainly better than last year, although it remains to be seen if that is mostly or almost entirely because they now have a decent QB1 for the first time since 2018. We also all know that we can just as easily see Bad Vernon as opposed to Good Vernon at any time, just as we saw Good Zach a week ago and Bad Zach last night.

They play each other twice more in the next 3-4 weeks so we’ll know soon whether last night was a one off or a sign of things to come.

We did that. Yes.

And Zach played just gawd awful.

Having hit rock bottom this week I have the feeling that two weeks from now after having plenty of time to let their anger build and their spleens vent, the Bombers will emerge from their upcoming bye with nothing but kind feelings for their opponent. I think it’ll be a love fest.

I agree with you. Just stating that there’s no reason to dig for reasons for the loss. I’m not convinced the Calgary is as good as a team as we saw last night either just like I’m not convinced that Winnipeg is as bad of a team as we saw. Every team is gonna crap the bad throughout the season. As much as I’d love to see my team light years ahead of everybody, it’s really great to see the competition so far this year with no team truly standing out as a top contender.

You’re not the only one, but I might suggest diarizing it for every Wednesday. That way you will be ahead of any Thursday games and you should know most injury situations by then. No point in making it any harder to win than it already is.
