The first three games are pretty easy picks though I see some conference in the Hammer over Montreal which is a head scratcher to me.
I also wonder if my Riders will learn from last games penalties (I’d make them all do 1 burpee per yard of penalties) or not? If Rourke is back they could stumble this game. Bombers should spank the evil empire that doesn’t seem so evil these days. Is it Arbuckle versus Crum? Or does Kelly make his first start and Brown is back? Either way I’ll let a few days of news go by to decide on game 4. I’m pretty set with the first three but will try to keep things easy for the forum workhorses @BomberJunkie and @Abbey
Okay I have to ask not just you Jon but everybody …what is this fascination with Dru Brown ? I just don’t see the “it” factor with this guy , he is serviceable no doubt but imo the guy is incredibly mediocre and way over-hyped . So please help me out here , what am I missing that everybody else is seeing in this guy ?
I’m not trying to say he is the second coming. It’s just that he is far better in my opinion than either Shiltz or Crum and gives Ottawa a far better chance to win.
He’s the only QB so far this year to throw for over 400 yards in a game. It’s true that much of this was as a result of being behind and needing to throw to catch up, but that’s how Bo gets the majority of his yards as well and some people seem to think he is the second coming. I don’t. I would rate Brown roughly equal to Bo, with a far greater upside.
He doesn’t have a great OL in front of him. And he’s not mobile. Most of the QB’s coming in after the Bo, Zach, Trevor era are much more mobile now - Rourke, Ford, Kelly, Alexander. They can run AND pass. You could add Adams to the list who also postdates the older guy.
IMO Brown has shown enough to be a VG QB but he’ll likely be overshadowed by the likes of the other young guys who are more versatile.
Saying that he’s better than Shiltz or Crum isn’t saying much when you think about it . As for him being equal to BLM ? Well I’m sorry but that’s rather laughable when you look at Bo’s record and accomplishments in this league in his career . Get back to me when Brown wins a few Cups , a few MOP’s and leads the league in passing and yardage and total wins in his career as Bo has had.
I’m talking about Bo today. He accomplished lots in the past for sure, but nothing since 2018. His first year with Hamilton was a bust and although last year was better, I feel he accumulated a lot of meaningless passing stats in many games in which your team was behind early and by a lot. He doesn’t win any more. i wouldn’t put him in the top 3 QB’s in the league at present and believe he’s nearing the end. Just my opinion and the opinion of some of your coaches not that long ago. Get back to me once he starts winning. If pressed I would take Dru Brown over him today.
Okay fair enough but just one last question …would you be so pro Brown if he wasn’t an ex-Bomber ? I’m not saying that this guy is a bad QB but I can honestly never see him taking a team to the Cup and winning it . The guy simply put does not have the chops to take a team to the promised land and come home victorious with a ring.
You’re actually reading a lot more into it than I mean. I’m not necessarily pro Brown and it has nothing to do with him being a former Bomber. In fact if I thought he was the next thing I would be pissed at the Bombers for letting him go. He has a good upside, but the jury is still out. Even more so for a relative newbie like Alexander. They both still have a lot to prove.
My initial comment on Brown was in the context of a conversation of picking teams to win in the pool without their starting QB. Kelly and Rourke were mentioned and I just added Brown to the list. Presumably we can all agree that their teams have a better chance of winning with their starting QB’s.
