2025 Calgary Stampeders Off-Season

I’d have to still count the Stamps in a worse position. Adams is clearly a better QB at this time than Zach but there is no guarantee that either of the 2 QB’s behind him have what it takes. Walker had good XFL stats & was around the NFL for some time. So “potentially” he could translate into a good CFL QB.

But I get where you’re coming from. This is likely the final year in Wpg for Zach. He’s had a good run but he hasn’t done enough in the big games - not all on him but he’s a part of the reason.

Good points. I’d say Calgary & Winnipeg are prolly the two worst teams for QB depth going into 2025 season. Zach is really bad under pressure - you’d think the Bombers would notice that and fortify their o-line but they haven’t. Different story for Olivera, but I think its due more to Olivera working with basic system run-blocking. When Zach is under pressure he no longer has the escape skills that made him a household name - also tends to barf up turnovers without much resistance.

The Bombers should have been going a bit younger in places like both sides of the LOS a bit at a time the past few years. IMO they’re probably looking at replacing Bryant, Neufeld & maybe Lofton. Neufeld admitted himself that he had a bad year. That’s a lot of guys maybe aging out in 1 year. As the saying goes, if you want loyalty get a dog.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:A little harsh.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Whether or not Thomas backs up Lawton, they have 3/4 of the DL over 31 going into this season. Lawson’s missed a lot of games over his 3 years & you have to give him a go regardless, or you’ve trained him for someone else after his 3 years is up this fall.

Vaughters made some good coin in the NFL &, @ 31, how motivated is he? Is he just collecting a pay cheque at this point. I love Willie but how much has he got left - & does he have to do it by himself? I’m not sure anybody else scares me much on that DL.

Winnipeg has surprised doubters for a couple of years now & still finished 1st. I’ve had them for 2nd the last 3 years myself. But I see a drop this year.

Even if Willy plays to same level as last year - he’s the only real difference-maker on that DL. That being known, opposing offenses can isolate him effectively and go after the mediocre guys. All the guys are go-getters, even Old Jake but they’re feisty, but in no ways dominant. Even in the days of Bubba “Doug” Brown we had a giant (6’8", 310) who enjoyed in-fighting and tests of strength too much, and not going directly for the QB. Thats why Brown’s sack and hurry numbers were average to less than average every year. He looked dominant but he was too focused on tests of strength with opposing o-linemen than breaking loose and sacking QBs. Now, the Bombers don’t even have a Big Bubba. At least that would take some heat off Willy Jefferson.
