2025 Burn The Witches - Pre-Season Edition

DCF, if you want to take over then go right ahead…

I don’t see Woods coming back based on the returns on display in Guelph.

Very vanilla play calling made it tough to evaluate the talent out there.

Guys that impressed: Brooks on returns, Veresuk around the ball a lot, Bruggeling with nice hands and good routes, Walton at DB

Not impressed: Powell

I don’t think it will take a lot of time to make the cuts. A lot of soft / missed tackles by the back ups on D.

I saw a ton of missed tackles from presumptive starter Wilborn too. He simply has to wrap up better or he’s going to give up too many first downs and keep this defense on the field.

Returner will be an interesting call. Wooden looked better until Brooks’ missed field goal return. It looked like at one point they stopped alternating them and just gave them all to Brooks, which made me wonder if that meant they’d made up their minds and didn’t want to risk Wooden getting hurt.

I was kinda disappointed by Wilborn, missed tackles and just behind a lot of plays. Both returners looked solid, Bruggeling was impressive we got a lot of good Canadian receivers. Powell never seems as good as people want him to be but we’ll see.

Agreed. Saw that too. Not looking good if he is on the bubble.

Played him the whole game too I would guess cause they’re not sold.

Which is surprising considering that basically none of the projected starters played in that game save for perhaps a rare play or two if any at all .

The hard part is that the LB group as a whole is not particularly good or deep so Wilborn was the presumed starter at WLB because no one else has really stepped up. Wilson seems to have one of the LB jobs but who else would we want to start in the other LB spot? Thomas? Veresuk? Baker?

I agreed with others that I wasn’t particularly impressed by Powell but looking at the stats they weren’t bad: 69% 11/16 for 113 and 2TDs to no INTs.

Nothing for BLM to be worried about, but that’s what Scott Milanovich wants his QB to do; protect the ball and take what the defense (and weather conditions) give you.

Tbh I don’t think we would be worse off with Veresuk/Baker combo in the middle over Wilborn/Thomas. Wilborn looked better last week but agree he missed at least a couple of tackles tonight. Don’t recall any other American linebackers really standing out tonight.

What’s even more disturbing about Wilborn playing almost the entire game is the fact that he was only credited with one tackle all game . In fact looking at the defensive stats he was 12th in tackling on defense on the night . You simply cannot have your WLB only getting in on one tackle all game . If anything that position should most nights top the board on defence for tackles or at least be in the top three in most games .

Yeah that’s definitely disturbing. I wonder if the WLB spot belongs to Cole as we didn’t see him on the field much tonight.

I don’t really have faith in Baker as more than a solid depth MLB and Veresuk is looking like he’ll indeed be special at some point but don’t know if I want to have him thrown into the fire like that if we don’t need to.

According to the game stats double 00 Knight had a 7 tackle night but it was a quiet seven tackles compared to how he looked last week .

Just an update on Wilborn but upon further review of the stats his lone tackle of the night was on ST’s .

He had 2TFLs too. I don’t see how he doesn’t make the team. And as to how he got that many I counted at least two where he was the guy who cleaned up a missed Wilborn arm tackle.

They did give him credit for a DT in addition to the ST.

Wonder if it looked like that because it was an Argos broadcast. It’s not like those two yo-yo’s in the booth would be fawning over Knight’s performance to appease all the Tiger-Cat fans watching. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Still though not a good night for a guy that the team is relying on to be a veteran starter this season .

Good point . Those two ditzes were hard to swallow all night . A classic pair of bird brains if there ever was a pair .

I was listening to the Ticats audio while watching the CFL+ stream. It was convenient because I could hear the result of the play first and knew which receiver to key onto. My own data enhanced feed.

Seeing as we are still finding that 7th Canadian starter, it probably will be Baker/Veresuk. Baker had a good game last week and Veresuk looks like a beast.

WLB: Wilson
MLB: Veresuk
SLB: White

I also think their will be a good 8 man rotation on the Dline. Not rotation enough players, was one of our biggest weaknesses last year
