2024 Paper Bag Bowl Thread

No.

Otherwise, oh well another fresh sad sack for this Sad Sack and probably at least one more.

Next season starts now to check whom to keep and whom to let go.

Elks now have a better record than last season, by one game! (25% increase). Hooray!! Another win and Elks improved by 50% over last year. Wow!! And, and and, then next year a 50% improvement will be 9 wins!!! Maybe. Or get more paper bags ready

Look at the rebuilding team 1 year in front of the Elksā€¦some smart spending in free agency and we can easily be thereā€¦

Typing error, almost, not also

Cow town will not allow the Elk to get that draft choice and the Stamps have a game in hand so to speak

OK, Lion and Stampeder fans; plenty of bags to go around.

Itā€™s only the Canadian draft, the first round picks for the past few years havenā€™t been too good.
Itā€™s FA that important

Problem is that the best of them are heading south. Wonder if anyone will take a first round flyer on Kurtis Rourke.

Good teams are built with great Canadian talent. The draft is always important .

Yes, although IMO itā€™s not crucial to have the #1 pick overall. You can build a winner without it. The Als drafted Tyrell Richards at #1 in 2022, and while heā€™s been a great ST player, heā€™s also been injured most of the time. OTOH, we drafted Tyson Philpot at #9 overall in that same draft, and Lwal Uguak at #7 overall in 2023. Dequoy #14 in 2020, Lestage #10 in 2021, Cantin-Arku #9 overall in 2024. All are key contributors.

Yes but you do not see any team win the championship without first having great talent that are Canadiansā€¦it is the nature of the CFL. The d rafts helps facilitate that greatly or the shite teams would not be rewarded with early and first picks.
Nor would you see the successful teams trading good proven players to get better draft picks.

And some teams draft for potential and the future while others draft for immediate needs. The marginal NFL prospects are a real crap shoot. What kind of pick do you risk on a potential star that might never play? Most teams, but not all go with the bird in hand approach and take guys early that will show up. Then they move on to the probableā€™s, the maybes and finally the probably nots if they have too many picks and lack imagination.
