Here’s a discussion of the green ordeal in Sao Paulo,
which the NFL has tried to downplay much like the precarious security situation in the city and some seriously sloppy articles by various reporters on the matter of the colour green at the venue until this one:
Nice cover story here Eagles - you know we locals are not buying this BS, so stop it already.
You are exercising this choice out of diplomacy you bojacks, so just 'fess up and move on already instead of trying to make BS fly that you know nobody local is going to buy.
And players are not talking about the security situation down there any more, being either directed or asked heavily by the NFL not to have their families travel to Brazil for the game, also for the same reasons.
I don’t like this idea now let alone that this game is on a crappy streaming app called Peacock, but hey the NFL is trying to break new international ground with this scheduling decision.
The Eagles, however, have planned accordingly, stripping their debut uniform of most green flourishes by opting for alternate black helmets and jerseys to go with white pants – the first time they’ve ever worn such a combination. They’ve insisted publicly their choices have more to do with honoring Corinthians, the host soccer club, than avoiding the disdain of any locals with contempt for the color green.
So why are the Packers not following suit, with plans to wear their traditional green jerseys?
Simple: The Packers essentially had no choice. Technically, the Brazil contest counts as a home game for the Eagles, even though it’ll occur on a neutral site. Which means the Eagles had the first say on uniforms, as is the NFL tradition. Their decision, meanwhile, stemmed from an internal memo claiming that green was only allowed for visiting teams at Corinthians Arena, according to the Associated Press.
The Packers are in course wearing green as the visiting side, even though this is Brazil so both sides are actually visiting sides and it’s not a real home game, but never mind, when in Rome and all that.
There is chatter about the Packers’ shade of green being more palatable than the Eagles’ midnight green, due to the presence of that shade on Brazil’s flag, but I have not yet made contact with one of my many distant cousins on my paternal side in Brazil yet so as to be able to verify this information let alone anything else.
