If he is not suspended, at VERY LEAST fined, the CFL is a joke.
Oh yeah! Another win.
Davis had a rocky start with the fumble and throwing the pick six. He recovered very nicely and was solid the rest of the game. He made some really nice throws within and out of the pocket.
Nice to see Rambo have a good game. Hope it is just the start for him.
That spear on Alexander was as dirty as it gets. Hope that Hamilton player gets a fine or a suspension.
That was my initial thought too … but he didn’t have the typical “inertness” lying on the field and once you could see his face he looked “all there” … that he was allowed to re-enter the game would seem to indicate a concussion wasn’t a concern … on the sideline they were working on his lower back.
The CFL absolutely OWES the Alouettes, their fans and the CFL in general a detailed explanation for the most absurd Command Centre decision ever … or an admission it was wrong and an apology … the ball wasn’t recovered quickly enough? … W-T-F
If that decision is somehow is supported by the Command Centre procedures, then they need to change … IMMEDIATELY.
It wasn’t a Command Centre failure. It was an Andre Proulx failure. He whistled the play dead immediately instead of doing what is now common practice in both the CFL and the NFL – let the play continue to its conclusion, then whistle things dead, and sort it out on review. Because he whistled so early, there was nothing to challenge.
That said, the CC should be able to overturn a clearly missed call on the field if they deem that the official has blown the play dead prematurely. Or it should be part of the coach’s challenge.
Per my understanding of the rules, there was nothing, technically, for the CC to overturn precisely because Proulx blew the play dead immediately. That technicality should be fixed in a rules amendment.
Edit: In passing, it was nice to see us running two- and even three-back sets last night. I think this is going to be the norm until KJG is healthy. Rather than put a space-filler like Fervius on the field, they’ll opt to send out Antwi with Fletcher to give us multiple formation looks, opening up running lanes and play action possibilities.
Ahhhh…Al Bradbury enough said!
J’ai apprécié également les nouvelles stratégies des Alouettes au sol et l’utilisation de deux demis, en même temps.
Alexander can and should learn from this game. He did lots of things well but has to improve on his blitz recognition and avoid staring down his targets. By rights, Hamilton really should have had another interception on that endzone toss to Reggie White in the fourth quarter.
Davis also has to get over that very normal tendency in young QBs – doing too much to avoid a sack and then making an even worse mistake. If he just goes down and takes the sack, the fumble never happens.
It’s OK to take a sack or throw the ball away. Live to fight another day. He’ll learn.
There was no challenge … but the Commend Centre reviewed it anyway … and then instead of simply saying the play had been whistled dead they came up with the “the ball wasn’t recovered quickly enough” BS.
Which is just ass-covering for the referee. Plenty of plays go far longer than that without a whistle. Oh well. Moving on…
The parenthetical in the headline is savage.
This is nothing new. This is why many agents will hang up on CFL football people when they call interested in signing their QB clients. There are two reasons the league can’t protect their quarterbacks. Idiots running the CFLPA, who refuse to give the league ANY ability to suspend players, even when it endangers their own members. League that refuses to use the rulebook like puttomg the ball on the one yard line when a QB is endangered with a dirty hit, like we saw last night.
Indeed. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Shawn Lemon chose to employ his own counsel to defend himself in the gambling suspension rather than rely on the PA.
Or just as bad - inconsistency in doing so. It’s obvious someone ripped a strip off them today - and the command centre called an RTP without prompting.
But inaction on things like Sayles hit on Alexander is both frustrating and infuriating.
And the real question is - does the next guy who savages a vulnerable QB walk away with a penalty or get disqualified? Who knows. Gambling houses could make a fortune on this stuff though. What the CFL did 10 minutes ago is no indication of what they will do now…
Part of what helped Davis in this week’s win is that Maas and Calvillo actually drew up a running game for once. Creativity, different backfield formations, two- and three-back sets … all the stuff that was not in evidence the week before. (And don’t tell me it was because SSK is that good against the run. Edmonton shredded the Riders on the ground last night.) We actually finished the HAM game with more total run yardage than the Cats.
When they want to, Maas and AC can actually call a good ground game. The issue is that they only do it when they feel they have no other choice.
On the Entoception: that was not only a beautiful play by Ento but a touchdown-saving pick. If you watch that play develop, Murray gets beaten by the receiver’s speed on the go route and we have no safety help deep. If Ento doesn’t read Bo’s eyes, break on the ball, and undercut the pass for the INT, Hamilton probably scores a TD on the play and the whole complexion of the game changes.
It is a frustrating trait of his - not working to try to keep the offence balanced between run and pass, must be the QB in him…
A team with no running game is playing Russian Roulette. Might not bite you but if it does in October/November, your season is over.
