It looks like Ventrelli had a good game at OG replacing Lestage. Unfortunately for him it is highly unlikely he will get another OG opportunity unless 2 National guards are injured. He will have a better chance competing at OT.
», a confié Brodeur-Jourdain.
This begs the interesting thought experiment: whether to start 3 or 4 American OL. Use one or even two less American WRs and get the ball more to the 2 starting A WRs and poke more holes for the ground game. The league orthodoxy is Can OGs of course. But that started in the days when pretty much all skill players were American. (All of AC’s receivers for eg). But there were few Gittens, KJG,Philpots Shaffer-Bakers, Emilus, etc way back then.
{some of you will recall my question last game about how they adjusted the ratio to fit in Ventrilli after POL went down. Apparently wasn’t a problem to use him}
Ventrelli would likely be more effective than Gagnon. Perhaps something to look at, but it would be tough to take out one of our American receivers even when KJG and Philpot are back.
No team is going to mess with its starting Canadian ratio halfway through the season unless injuries leave them no choice. Ventrelli did fine but he’ll be back on the PR now that Lestage and Gagnon are healthy.
