2024 CFL (and Other Sports) TV and Media Ratings

Back to no more Sundays for a tad - as the CFL is terrified of going up against the almighty NFL.

Shouldn’t be - a CFL (or two) game on Sunday til Labour Day should be a given. And pit one more CFL game vs. NFL til our playoffs kick in. (6pm start advisable so you don’t go head on with 8 NFL games - just the one at 7pm - which may or may not be a dog.

Sundays are sacred. Not just for church congregations - but congregations of football fans - and not just NFL fans - but CFL ones, too!

I don’t have a problem with one Sunday game mainly out of the East.

It’s better than the triple header on Saturday.

1pm est is good enough.

If they can hit over a million week after week then there might a consideration for more games to be on CTV.

Hope for the best.

I think the Banjo Bowl might be the highest rated game of the year. We’ll see.

CTV should have well over 950,000, possibly as high as 1.25 million. Just don’t think it will hit 1.5 million, even on CTV.

It’s supposed to be freezing cold on Saturday in southern Ontario high of only 12C and rainy so I assume some people will stay inside and watch sports.
But I still say that if you don’t have TSN or Sportsnet you are not interested in sports

And I still say that’s the most ridiculous statement ever made on the internet.

Why? I’m sure there are thousands of people that have zero interest in sports and do not subscribe to TSN or Sportsnet.

I’m sure there are millions of people who don’t but that’s not what you said. You said if you don’t subscribe to either then you’re not a sports fan which is absolutely false.

If you have immigrated to Canada and you don’t enjoy North American sports you aren’t subscribing to a North American sports network. Canada is a land full of immigrants. My former landlord was from Pakistan and he subscribed to “Sky Sports” to pick up his Cricket interests. Cricket is right up there in world popularity with soccer.

There are people who have “CBC Gem” to pick up those sports and don’t have TSN or Sportsnet.

There are people who live in rural areas that aren’t serviced by cable companies and can’t afford satellite dishes. They have the opportunity to listen to games on the radio or they find out how to ride the pirate seas with Captain @Paolo_X

There are also people who watch the games on Youtube instead of subscribing to any sports broadcasting company.

There are people who watch games at the bar because they don’t subscribe to a sports network.

If it hits any of those numbers it is a game changer. Regardless, that is a dream matchup but I’ll be the broken record that says yet again Ottawa has been historically the lowest rated team. If the CTV numbers are higher for all the Ottawa games we will learn something.

Good to not have overly optimistic hopes and set up for a fall. I’ll be happy to match the TSN number for the first game until people can find the games and know there is one on CTV Saturday afternoons at 3pm EST

Just to kill some time and make conversation, the advertising photo above is a model of my antenna called a Mohu Curve.

I had an old set of Radio Shack rabbit ears but they were kind of unsightly. I was getting bonus money (danger pay) for performing essential services during the pandemic and had some money to burn so I figured what the hay.

I grew up around antennas so I know a bit about them. I knew this antenna would work because I was relatively close to the transmitters and I can get all the channels that are available. Had I had more available channels and been farther from the transmitters I would have got a better antenna.

But it blends in the room and doesn’t look like an antenna (the whole idea)

Re the video, they claim a 60 mile range, I call BS on that, more like a 20 mile range. And they also say HDTV which is baloney, your grandfather’s antenna from the 50s will get the exact same signal.

It just floors me that many people have no knowledge of a technology that has been around over a hundred plus years and was still commonly used in the 70s/80s. There are even some who think it is stealing a signal which is what makes the video fun to me (not that they are saying that).

You must remember the video game system from radio shack.

Anybody up for stickman tennis :tennis::grin:

NFL Week 1 Ratings (Ex Monday Night)

The run of big audiences began Thursday with the season opener featuring the Chiefs, the two-time defending champions, and the Ravens, drawing the NFL’s biggest kickoff game audience, now at an updated average of 29.2 million.

NBCUniversal’s Peacock followed on Friday with an average of 14.2 million for an exclusive stream of the NFL’s first game in Brazil, involving the Eagles and Packers. That figure was the second-biggest live audience ever on Peacock, trailing only the record-setting figure in January for an NFL wild-card game.

Then on Sunday:

  • An average of 23.8 million on Fox Sports for the Cowboys-Browns game that marked the [high-profile debut of new Fox Sports lead NFL analyst Tom Brady](Tom Brady Has Room To Grow After Fox Broadcasting Debut). Despite the blowout win for Dallas that was largely devoid of on-field drama, the game was up 46% from the comparable game to open last season, and was the network’s most-watched Week 1 game since 2020.
  • An average of 22.7 million on NBC Sports for the Lions’ overtime win (above) over the Rams in the season debut of Sunday Night Football. That figure was 3% higher than the comparable Cowboys-Giants Sunday prime-time opener to begin the 2023 season. The Thursday and Sunday nights combined to give NBC Sports its best two-game NFL opening weekend since 2015.
