For all those complaints about Thursday nights, myself sometimes but the coverage is far better on Thursday nights since those summer games started again in 2023 than it was before the pandemic, the combined number of TSN and RDS indeed is solid and a great indicator for the CFL.
So long as Montreal play well, I am not the first I figure to think they will be on a lot of Thursday nights in seasons going forward along with certain other teams like Winnipeg.
Looks like the CFL should be developing Canadian QB’s based on the ratings.
Sorry just wanted to know if blue is trending down and red is trending up.
For my curiosity as I rarely look at ratings that’s all.
Thanks
Oh sorry again should have responded to the right person.
No problem! I actually run the CFL Attendance account on twitter so you responded to the right guy.
The numbers in parenthesis are the change in ratings compared to last weeks game in a given time slot;
Week 8 Thursday Game = 731,500 viewers
Week 9 Thursday Game = 494,500 viewers
The difference = 237,000 viewers
I think the Riders games are always the highest ratings if you go back and look at the ratings over the last few years.
Maybe in past years but this year it’s typically Montreal games.
I tried my best to watch at work, but it was nothing doing, so I had to follow some YouTube channel, but the ratings did impress elsewhere also on Pirate Sports Network:
The U.S. narrowly defeated France in a thriller that averaged 19.5 million viewers on NBC and Peacock. That mark is the highest viewership for the game since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, when the U.S. men led by Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, and David Robinson trounced Yugoslavia.
2024 Week 10 TV ratings
Thursday
Saskatchewan at Ottawa — 526,700 TSN
Friday
Calgary at Toronto — 353,500 TSN
Saturday
Hamilton at Montreal — 392,200 TSN and 293,500 RDS (685,700 total)
Sunday
B.C. at Edmonton — 528,900 TSN
Total average: 450,325 (French included: 523,700)
When every regular season game perhaps will be drawing over a half million on TV, except when Toronto plays or for certain late season games without playoff meaning, well by jove I think the CFL has something all the more here!
Who knows how many are watching also on streaming within Canada.
We never hear the CBS numbers in the US, and of course those for Pirate Sports Network worldwide are with the buried treasure. Arrrggh.
Impressive ratings -
I wonder the last time and how long it has been since the entire CFL, for the ratings average, has outdrawn the Blue Jays before September?
It’s been a long time, but it should be noted that the Jays numbers are Sportsnet only, they don’t include the Quebec numbers, the Jays are on TVA in Quebec. The CFL numbers include RDS.
But the CFL numbers are up this year across the board
It used to be commonplace.
In fact for some of the old time posters on here can fondly remember the league outdrawing the Jays by a large margin no matter what time of year it was.
Anyhow, good to see those numbers approaching the old standards that the league used to enjoy beofre moving solely to TSN
2024 Week 13 TV ratings
Saturday
Ottawa at B.C. — 532,900 TSN
Sunday
Winnipeg at Saskatchewan — 869,300 TSN
Monday
Toronto at Hamilton — 490,000 TSN
Edmonton at Calgary — 667,100 TSN
Total average: 639,825
Mighty good numbers Canada!
Four games during the holiday weekend averaged almost 640,000 viewers on TSN, which was an increase of slightly more than one percent from 2023. Saskatchewan’s annual Labour Day Classic against rival Winnipeg was down over 100,000 but the Monday games were both up.
Viewers in every demo boosted the three-down league to its first 600,000-plus average English ratings week this year.
So long as there is overall improvement, it’s a victory for the CFL!
Not surprised that as per usual the highest rated game involves the Riders.
Toronto/Hamilton the lowest rated game of the weekend and no Jays on Labour Day this year.
But the first week with over 600,000 average viewers this season. That will mean good revenue for TSN
Not only that but the Bombers as well, the two highest draws in the league and the advertising moneymakers. These type of numbers highlight the myth of Toronto’s economic importance to the league.
I’m expecting the Banjo Bowl on CTV to have over 1,000,000 viewers easily. Dare we hope for 1.5?
