Just realized I picked every favourite. That’s got to be a recipe for disaster!

“Lock” @AYC2112 and others say?

I get a kick out of the takes from the gamblers when they drift into other places beyond their forums.

There’s a reason the gambling ads and all the hot takes are all over the place and in our faces so much in September, for right now is the annual money grab before the budget runs out for most of them.

In the US, the NFL is number one in the handle, MLB is number three, and NCAA Football is number four with all three active in September and October.

As for “lock,” well  .

I can’t believe even until a few years ago, there were dudes who paid for advice for picks, including those “locks”, as well as all those fast-talking and loud dudes on shows talking about the lines, which can be found now easily on YouTube or FAST channels to be visually annoying instead of merely annoying on radio.

I wonder if even ol’ “Smooth” Jimmy Apollo still has his show going.
First football Sunday in many months. Smooth Jimmy Apollo wants to know your favorite Simpsons sports moment? : r/TheSimpsons

Baltimore

If it was a playoff game I would take KC.

Green Bay

I’m betting that Jordan Love is the real thing. Not sure who the fans in Brazil will be cheering for if any side, although this counts as a Philly home game.

NY Giants

Tightest odds on the slate. A toss up, like most of these games. I’ll go with the home team.

Miami

This one might not be close as someone else pointed out. Easiest pick on the slate in my opinion.

Dallas

A total toss up and it’s unknown whether Cee Dee Lamb will be in game shape, although he does practice with Dak in the off season. I’ll go with the homer lean here.

NY Jets

Want to get ahead of the field early and this pick would do it. Upset special. Could easily be a loss. Ayuk in the same situation as Lamb. The Jets were the AFC pre season favourite to make the Super Bowl last year until tin foil hat boy went down 4 plays in.

Thank you to all who have responded. Here you all go again for another chance.

If you play, don’t make your picks late and be a NO-GOOD GALOOT!

The first week is almost always so haphazard, for nobody really knows the new teams and even so, how they’ll really play at real game speed.

But the takes and some of the talk are already starting to get tough I see.

I can feel the tension building in here already with each of these tough and mean slates of picks,
as we each hold our cards more closely to our chests glancing at each other warily for who amongst you cagey scoundrels might try to pull another fast one.

Perhaps we get two nights of drama now to build into Sunday, or we get two duds and then, well even then there would be even more anticipation for Sunday.

Enter those annual HOT TAKES on Monday morning quarterback, but at least now more of us don’t listen to those insufferable media types on cable channels and sports radio.

Then if that’s not enough by Monday, we get that script for Monday night with a popular villain playing quarterback on the road in Santa Clara with much of the nation cheering against him and his sorry New York team.

About two hours to go until game time in KC. Perhaps the game of the week is tonight.

A healthy 23 pool entrants so far. The picks break down as follows:

Miami 19
Jax 4

I had this as the freebie or most one sided game on the slate and the field seems to agree.

San Fran 19
NYJ 4

Not surprised here either although I believe this one isn’t as one sided as it may appear. Aaron Rodgers could win the game by himself and is obviously a better QB than Purdy, but there is always the danger of atmospheric signals being picked up by his tinfoil hat and disrupting his game flow. Jets expected to have one of the best defenses in the league again this year.

KC 15
Balt 8

KC for sure in the playoffs, but not necessarily in the regular season. They do have home field advantage and that might be worth something. The QB’s are both 2 time MVP’s with Jackson the reigning MVP. Ravens have the GOAT kicking field goals.

Philly 13
Green Bay 10

First NFL game in Brazil in Sao Paolo, the biggest city in the southern hemisphere if not the world. Hard to know if the crowd will back the home team Eagles. Should be close.

Dallas 13
Cleveland 10

Very hard to predict. Based on last year the Cowboys should win easily, but this game isn’t based on last year. Cleveland has home field advantage in the Dawg Pound. Prescott is one of the best regular season QB’s over the last few years and this ain’t a playoff game.

NYG 12
Viqueens 11

The closest game according to the oddsmakers and the field. Two former high draft pick QB’s that haven’t quite excelled so far will be starting. Jones for the Giants and damn Darnold for Minnesota. Giants being at home could be the difference. The fact that this isn’t an important game is an edge for the purple guys.

Enjoy the games! Glad to see the NFL back.

Good glory the Giants are bad.

1-3 so far. Come on Jets and Browns!

Ditto and ditto. Come on Jets and Cowboys!

I thought I might not win one game this week until the Dolphins beat the choking Jaguars.

…only 6 hours old and the story has already aged badly…

Tough slate this week - I figure almost everybody has been on the wrong side of either or both of

  1. Baltimore at Kansas City, losing perhaps by a toe
  2. Jacksonville at Miami, blowing scoring chances and a lead and losing by a last-second 52-yard field goal

No the majority got these right. See my numbers earlier in the thread. The most got the Giants wrong (11) and the Browns (10) and the Packers (10).

I thought you said you were losing earlier? A turnabout?

Well I lost the first game on Thursday and the first CFL game on Friday. So far NFL doing much better since, including Philly in Friday. That is if I am remembering what teams I picked. I tend to forget things these days, sigh
