If you live in Canada and you are a sports fan then you subscribe to TSN or Sportsnet. If you don’t subscribe, it means you don’t to watch the Blue Jays, the Raptors, TFC, CFL and most NHL games.

Well … CFL games would be a sacrifice

I used to live with a guy from Pakistan and he had “Sky Sports”. He was serious about trying to get on to the Canadian Cricket team. Cricket by the way is followed by 2.5 billion people around the world. He was a sports fan and I doubt he followed any of the North American sports.

I also know from experience that people who live in rural areas can’t always get serviced by cable companies. Many resort to pirate satellite dishes and only get American channels.

I think you totally missed my original post. And cherry picking what I said.
I was responding to someone that said the CFL should be on CTV to get more eyes on it.
I said I don’t think that is the answer since most sports are not on TSN & Sportsnet, sports fans subscribe to the sportsnetworks.
CTV, has stated they put sports on TSN because sports fans watch sports channel. I’m not talking about people in other countries just viewers in Canada

No need for the personal insults guys. I have edited your posts to remove those. We will delete any further similar posts in their entirety.

I didn’t live in another country while I was watching sky sports.’

Not all sports fans subscribe to sports channels. This is a false narrative. I have already told you that lots of people go to BC Lions games and have cut the cord. People would not say that the CFL should have games on CTV if they didn’t know people or they themselves didn’t subscribe to sports channels.

This “theory” completely discounts people who support amateur sports and don’t have cable at all. There are tons of people who are going to the food bank because they can’t afford groceries. If you can’t afford groceries then you can bet a fair amount can’t afford luxuries like Cable TV. It also discounts people who can’t afford a dish because they don’t have access to cable.

I also know from first hand experience that there are large groups of immigrants who do not follow North American sports. As soon as you cross the border you don’[t magically become Canadianized. While they are living in Canada, they follow the leagues that they grew up watching.

You can also be a sports fan and follow your team on the radio. You are not less of a fan because you don’t subscribe to sportsnet or TSN. People who read sports magazines and don’t have cable are also sports fans.

CTV doesn’t want to put the CFL on their channel because of their NFL package. Pure and simple. Any other reason listed is an excuse not a reason.

It has also been correctly pointed out that several recent posts have nothing to do with the topic, which is 2023 Touchdown Atlantic. So let’s please stay on topic in this thread. I won’t remove those but will remove any further posts along those lines. You can always continue that discussion via PM or start a new topic.

I am kind of surprised that there is not more chatter online as to whether Touchdown Atlantic can happen given that Halifax is under a state of emergency until August 5th? What is happening CFL? Some information would be helpful?

The Halifax peninsula (where the game is taking place) has not been hit too hard. Other parts of the Halifax area have been greatly affected by the fires and flooding, but the location of the game is largely unaffected. There is no talk of changing the game location and time because there is no reason to change them.

It is not just a question of the field being playable but how the situation impacts the entire visit for the teams and any fans … for example: “Please allow for extra travel time to the airport, as Highway 102 is experiencing significant backups and delays as storm restoration and repair work is underway” (from Halifax airport website).

Hopefully, there’ll be some initiative from the league and teams to chip in to help local communities.

That would be wonderful. We cancelled our trip there because of the impacts to the overstressed infrastructure the province is already under. The B&B we were to stay in the first night, only suffered some loss of landscapping but the nearby village had approximatley 200 houses flooded. When we called to cancel (we donated what we would have paid in fees), the owner was very appreciative and expressed that he did not see how the Halifax area could properly accommodate the game with all of the provincial damage. I believe that the game should not be cancelled but it should be postponed for at least 6 weeks.

I completely disagree.

I just don’t understand why the CFL hasn’t at least come out with some kind of message, to acknowledge the plight that the people there are facing, but to confirm that plans are still in place to have the game played. I assume that is the plan because they have made absolutely no comment whatsoever, which is appalling. Speaks to Ambrosie as Commissioner and the lack of communication.

Toronto will wear the Schooners uniform for this one? Anyone know?

Is there such a thing as a Schooners uniform?

Similar to the Argos uniform currently.

Unbelievable how something always seems to mess this up for NS. First it was 3 years of Covid and now the extreme weather events.

Terrible, wrong color, make the Riders wear them
