Just seeing the standings for the first time and I also offer my congrats to @usc4dav. Well done my friend.

Off the top of my head in the last two years we have had an American win this pool and a Masters pool (Paolo) and a Global (Brit-CFlukb) win the GCC challenge. I’m wondering if we might need to tighten the ratio rules a bit?

I will post some further year end stats relating to teams picked, field percentage and perfect participation as soon as I get a chance. I have been in touch with the master trophy maker and awards will be handed out when they are ready. This isn’t the British Open where Gepetto is engraving the trophy while the winner is walking down the 18th fairway!

Be sure that all of you enter the playoff pool linked below. Many of you already have.

Congrats to @usc4dav - aye a field goal here and a field goal there and just one perfect week, and I would have been a solid fifth place but for you damn cagey scoundrels in here!

But it was a lot of weekly fun too!

Well it seems I did just enough to break the top 15! And got the most perfect weeks to boot :sunglasses:

I think i couldve been a threat for the top 5 if I didnt miss so many weeks LOL

Thank you to the admins on the forum who set this up and continued to post results+picks all season long. I enjoyed the NFL more than I have in the last few years and it was mainly because of this pool.

I cant wait for the Playoffs and the CFL Pickem!

Congratulations @usc4dav!

The tinker, tailor, soldier and spy has now completed his excellent work and I am pleased to post the always fabulous trophy and 2024 Amazing Kreskin Award to the pool winner for the 23-24 regular season being USCDave. Last congrats you’ll get from me Dave as now I’ll will be trying to beat your ass in the playoff pool. Please also note that the “participation ribbons”, which are actually a shout out in one of the awards to those who picked every game. I’m thinking of making that worth something next season, like an extra win. Thoughts?

Thanks to all who participated as always and those who assisted in various ways throughout the year including Mahal, Gridiron Girl, Maaax and even Capital Dave, wherever he might be. Looking forward to next year!

Edit: I’ll ping @usc4dav so that he is alerted and can collect his fabulous prize.

Some thinking out loud here …

The rankings and tiebreakers could go as follows as one option:

  1. Wins
  2. Number of Perfect Weeks
  3. Participation: Number of Weeks with 6 Games Picked
  4. Points Differential

Such a scenario awards those making all the picks more for taking the additional risks and of course not being no-good galoots sometimes when they are late.

I’m also sympathetic to those missing a few of those Thursday night games, though on the other hand I hope we don’t have as many of them in the pool. It also helps when there is no Monday night game on the prior week’s slate so as to make for a tight window.

For the week of US Thanksgiving Day weekend though, there are no excuses for any of those games on Thursday because that date is on the calendar every single year.

You do have a potential point about picking all the games being a tiebreaker ahead of aggregate points. There were several people that didn’t pick at times which had the (I am sure unintended) effect of saving their aggregate, especially if they missed a tough week. I always thought that was odd and perhaps even unfair to those who participated. The downside I see with this is that it is unlikely that a third tiebreaker will be needed so full participation will get you a nod and a ribbon and likely nothing else. That may be ok though.

If we award an extra win or even two (say one at mid season as well) then for sure those who participate fully are tangibly rewarded. Some may think that this is unnecessary however and that it strays too far from the principle of being rewarded for correct picks only and that missing an opportunity for a win by missing a pick is punishment enough. Alouette fans will likely approve as they might think of this as the equivalent of a pool dribble kick.

We’re still some 9 months away but we’re always open to feedback so more opinions are welcome. I’m just setting out pros and cons I can think of off the top of my head so if there is a consensus for change I’m not predisposed either way. I do think that if I don’t win then there is likely something wrong with the rules.

That’s what Hometown did last year. It’s yours to use for a year if you choose to.
