2022 Official Hollywood Top 27 - USports Football

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 -POLL 1

This season kinda snuck up on me. It's 2022 already!

The weird thing is that the Urban Cowboys are defying the world and bringing in masks again this year. The CIS should make their football team play in masks! Just so that UWO fans can read this, the most authoritative ranking in university football, I have had the draw inspiration from a selection of masked ladies, all of whom love their football.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Sask (1-0 2-0) beat Man# Cal
2 Reg (1-0 1-0) beat Man
3 UBC (1-0 2-0) beat Cal# Alta
4 Man (0-1 0-2) lost Sask# Reg
5 Alta (0-1 0-1) lost UBC
6 Cal (0-1 0-2) lost UBC# Sask

I saw large portions Reg-Man and Alta-UBC. There was some potential with all four teams, and some weaknesses. I suspect a lot of mixed results amongst those teams. But those Dinos! WTF?

ONTARIO

1 UWO (2-0) beat Gue Laur
2 Que (2-0 3-0) beat McG# Tor Ott
3 Ott (1-1) beat Wind lost Que
4 Tor (1-1) beat Carl lost Que
5 Carl (1-1) beat McM lost Tor
6 Wind (1-1) beat Gue lost Ott
7 Wat (1-0) beat York
8 Laur (0-1) lost UWO
9 McM (1-1) beat York lost Carl
10 Gue (0-2 1-2) beat York# lost UWO Wind
11 York (0-1 0-2) lost Gue# Wat

So York is on Jabroni Alert already. Lots of teams in that mid-range look like they could rise or fall by a lot in the next couple of weeks.

QUEBEC

1 Lav (2-0) beat Sher McG
2 Mtl (1-0) beat Conc
3 Sher (1-1) beat Conc lost Lav
4 Conc (0-2) lost Mtl Sher
5 McG (0-1 0-2) lost Que# Lav

Not even the Q is producing disgusting blowouts. Good! Is anybody else hoping that Sher, Conc, and McG do well for a change and make the final?

ATLANTIC

1 MtA (1-0 2-0) beat SMU# Bish
2 St. FX (1-0 2-0) beat Aca# SMU
3 Bish (1-1) beat Aca lost MtA
4 SMU (1-1 1-2) beat Aca lost MtA# SFX
5 Aca (0-2 0-3) lost SFX# Bish SMU

22 McG (0-1, 0-2) lost Que# Lav

26 Aca (0-2, 0-3) lost SFX# Bish SMU

"JABRONIS-IN-WAITING"

10 Wat (1-1) beat York* lost Gue

The Urban Cowboys solidified themselves as #1 and York is clearly jabroni material. Wins over York really don‛t count for much. In between, there is much potential for major shifts to occur. This ranking has no "oddball" results, i.e. nobody has lost to a team behind themselves in the rankings.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - POLL 3

I guess you could say that the early season is over. Teams seem to have found their level. This week‛s assistant has lots of masks, making her safe enough for Western Ontario‛s admins and every member of this forum. Those tattoos likely distract you from the masks.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

[color=Gray]The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Sask (3-0 4-0) beat Man# Cal UBC Reg

4 UBC (1-2 2-2) beat Cal# Alta lost Sask Man
5 Man (1-2 1-3) beat UBC lost Sask# Reg Alta
6 Cal (0-3 0-4) lost UBC# Sask Reg Alta

We now have our first rankings loop. UBC beat Alberta who beat Manitoba who beat UBC. Calgary played just UBC (21 point exhibition loss) and Alberta (11 point loss). Sask played just Manitoba (1 point exhibition win) and UBC (19 point win). This doesn‛t break the logjam, UBC being ahead on one and behind on the other and Manitoba/Alberta having no common opponent outside the loop. So margin of victory gives it to Alberta, with UBC then Manitoba following.

ONTARIO

1 UWO (3-0) beat Gue Laur Que

10 Wat (1-2) beat York* lost Gue McM

Windsor leapfrogs Toronto and margin of victory allows McMaster to leapfrog Guelph. Once again, this ranking has no "oddball" results. The gap from #3 to #9 is not that much. The gap between #2 and #3 will impact The Blend.

QUEBEC

No changes here, again. But the scores are close so there will likely be some reversals in the return matches in two weeks. With nobody taking charge of the conference, they could all soon be ham'n'eggers and jabronis.

The Gracious Queens beat McGill by 7 (in exhibition) and have messed up Toronto (by 22 points), Ottawa (by 10 points), and Carleton (by 32 points). This seems to confirm my suspicion that there is a huge gap between #2 and #3 in the OUA, much more than the gap between #2 and #3 in the CW. So a boost for the tightly-wound middle of the CW. The ?could go either way? category is shrinking, as it should.

Guelph, Mount Allison, and St. FX could soon be ham‛n‛eggers, and jabronyism beckons Acadia.

Regina continues to cling to #2, followed by the 3-way loop. Next week marks a complete round-robin the regular season, to be followed by three random opponents. Rankings could be made difficult if Regina loses to the teams in the loop, because then we‛d have two loops, at least.

Very little movement here, as everything was by-the-book, except for the OUA loop being formed and two leapfrogs by ratings-adjacent teams in the OUA and AUS. I did boost Laval over Regina based on margins of victory and Guelph sinks due to margins of defeat. The Ham‛n‛Egger category beckons Guelph.

I thought that this might be the weekend where we‛d get at least one oddball result since the three teams inside the loop all played teams outside the loop. AT times, each of the games looked to possibly produce a surprise but in the end, none did. The CW has now produced one lap around the round-robin, therefore the standings are the rankings. No games next weekend because the CW is the only conference with an even number of teams and Thanksgiving is their common bye week, again.

Upon seeing this week‛s assistant, I know that every reader had one thought: "Gee, she‛s not wearing her mask properly. She had better not come over to my place to watch football dressed like that." Good for you! That was my first observation. I, too, shall ignore her.

Once again, no sparks in the OUA. The Top Four all fell into place nicely. The problem is that they had few close games. Then came the three teams in the loop, followed by Ham‛n‛Eggers and York the Jabronis.

The Urban Cowboys‛ closest game was a 15 point win. The Queens had one loss and otherwise just win by less than 10. Ottawa is the exception, where 3 of their 6 wins were by less than a touchdown. Laurier had a 5-point, a 3-point loss and their next closest game was a 13-point win.

Of the teams in the loop, Windsor had one win and one loss by less than 17 points. Carleton had wins by 6 and 11 points, otherwise the rest were 15 or more. Toronto had a 3-point win, a 5 point loss, and the rest were decided by 15 or more.

I kept Regina in the Contenders because they were assured of 2nd place before their game and otherwise their only losses were to Sask. The AUS teams are hard to rank because of their lack of success outside the A and absence of interlock with the Q. Sure St. FX were unbeaten, but they play in a lower level league. The only Ham‛n‛Egger to beat a team in The Blob was McGill, and they had a decent pre-season game against Queen‛s. So I gave them a boost in the end.
