2021 Potential Free Agents

ESTIMATES-2021 ALOUETTES SALARIES TO PLAYERS-AS AT FEBRUARY 20,2021.

At this time, no one knows if there will be a 2021 CFL season or a shortened season or no season at all; this being said, I have nevertheless estimated what the 2021 salaries to players could look like, for a full 2021 CFL season. The numbers are mainly based on estimates or previous information; they are also based on the assumption that Henoc Muamba won't re-sign with the Alouettes; if he signs, the numbers will increase.

In mid-December 2020, I was projecting the 2021 total salaries to players to be at $4,932,000.00; these numbers included provisions of $477,000.00 for players on 1 game injury list and players on practice roster. From that date until February 8,2021, I did proceed with adjustments following restructurations of contracts, particularly to Vernon Adams Jr.,retirement of Trey Rutherford and a few re-signings; despite these adjustments, the total number remained at $4,932,000.00.

The opening of free agency, at noon on February 9,2021, has had an impact on the numbers; the many unexpected signings of top talent by Danny, particularly on defence, have increased the previous numbers by a total of $228,000.00; the total 2021 salaries to players are now at $5,160,000.00. Should Henoc Muamba re-signs, the salaries for LBs will increase by $48,000.00 and the new total would be $5,208,000.00.

Before listing, by groups, the numbers of these 2021 salaries I include some comments:

-DEFENSIVE LINE:
Despite the non re-signings of John Bowman and Adrian Tracy, the additions of Almondo Sewell and Nick Usher, along with a few increases to some players, explain the high increase in salaries to this group.
In mid-December 2020, I had 4 American-A- players and 4 National -N- players on this group; now I have 5A and 3 N. I definitely expect that some N players will be released.

-LINEBACKERS:
Despite the non re-signings of Henoc Muamba and Tevin Floyd, the additions of Chris Ackie and Patrick Levels, along with an increase to salary of 1 LB rookie, explain the increase in salaries to this group.

-DEFENSIVE BACKS:
The non re- signing of Ciante Evans explains the (reduction) in salaries to this group.

A few N veterans will definitely be released; A players such as Tyquwan Glass and Najee Murray will be in a tough "fight" to keep their jobs, given the quality of new A DBs signed.

-OFFENSIVE LINE:
Despite the retirement of Trey Rutherford and the non re-signing of A Chris Schleuger, the additions of David Foucault and Jason Lauzon-Séguin, along with increases to some players, explain the increase in salaries to this group.

This group includes 6 N veterans that are all paid at salaries for starters, although only 4 will be starters. I expect releases or trades.

-RECEIVERS AND RETURNER:
The addition of Natey Adjei, along with a few increases to salaries of some players, explain the increase in salaries to this group.

Given the numbers of N veterans in this group and the quality of new A players signed , there will definitely be fierce competition and I expect that some A and N veterans will be released or traded.

-RUNNING BACKS AND FULLBACKS:
The increase in salaries to this group is mainly explained by the increase to salary of William Stanback. A few other increases.

-QUARTERBACKS:
No change to the numbers.

While I have Matthew Shiltz as the number 2 QB, I would not be surprised by a change. I have rookie A Darius James Peterson as number 3.

-SPECIALISTS:
No change to the numbers.

At this time, my number 1 concern remains the lack of a good punter or kicker. If an A K/P is added, 1 A player will have to be excluded amongst other groups. Ideally, a good Global -G- K/P can be drafted or recruited.

-GLOBAL PLAYERS:
No change in numbers. Each G player has to be paid $54,000.00, no more no less. 2 G players will have to be on active roster, in 2021.

In mid-December 2020, I had 1 G player as a DB and 1 G player as an offensive lineman. Presently, no G players on roster, so I have them in a separate group.

-ROSTER:
The roster of 46 players include 39 veterans and 7 rookies, if we include the 2 G players. If we exclude the 2 G players, the remaining 5 rookies are: 1 A MLB, i.e. Kendrell Brothers or Tre Watson, 1 A DB, I N DB, i.e. Marc-Antoine Dequoy, 1 A RB and 1 A QB, i.e. Darius James Peterson.

I now list, by groups, the mid-December 2020 numbers and the mid-February 2021 numbers. Mid-December 2020 numbers include the adjustments up to February 8,2021; the mid-February numbers include the adjustments from February 9,2021 to February 20,2021 inclusively.

Mid-February 2021. 25 A and 21 N. Salaries of $5,160,000.00. Increase of $228,000.00.

In 2021, the maximum cap is at $5,350,000.00 and the floor cap at $4,750,000.00. The latest numbers reflect an amount lower than the max. cap by $190,000.00 while these same numbers are higher than the cap floor by $410,000.00.

In the coming months and weeks there will most probably be movements of players; when needed I will make necessary adjustments.

Justin Dunk says the number Henoc Muamba wants is $150,000.

That's not too crazy. He's a difference maker. Richard had him at $138,000.

Let's start a Go Fund Me!

In order to be re-signed I expect that Henoc will have to accept a 5% to 8% reduction.

As Sheldon wrote, his demand are "not too crazy" but he will have to accept a reduction. Let's hope that common sense will prevail on both sides.

There is also, the question of bonus money I'm sure. 150k with a 10k at signing is one thing 150k with a 50k up front is another conversation.

The Als sign a 30 year old RB.

I like it ! I like Artis-Payne in his draft year and I wanted Carter back

Guy played in AAF

Yes, and he was one of the best if not the best there.

I don't remember him from the AAF. He did play in the XFL for Dallas.

My bad I read it fast, I taught we where talking about the XFL

He's 30 but not a whole lot of wear and tear, so who knows?

Cameron Artis-Payne is also buddies with Quan Bray from the time they were both at Auburn.

Bray is going to be butt buddies with Bubba from Cell Block C

Yeah, its too bad for Quan he's not Mexican or from the Golden Triangle.

If Bray was Mexican, he'd be sawed off in half and stuffed in an oil drum left in a barrio dumpsite. He'd be grateful for tossing Bubba's salad

I'm not surprised that CAP ended up in Montreal, guys talk. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Quan back in the league sooner than later. Its not like he's been found "Guilty" of anything, Right?. Would you not welcome him back to Montreal ?, I would.

I would too. You decriminalize or you don't.

Justin Dunk says the Argos are the front-runners for the services of Henoc Muamba.

The Argos and Bear Woods have announced a restructured deal/contract for 2021. If the Argos are the front-runners for Henoc Muamba, why would they care to restructure the contract of Bear Woods? They could not/would not keep both Bear Woods and Henoc Muamba.
