2021-22 NHL Season

This $2M fine is pocket change to the Blackhawks, a slap on the wrist!
The Coyotes in ARZ had their 1st round draft pick removed for testing players ahead of the previous draft.
A huge coverup by the Team, They actually wrote this offender a letter of recomendation to send him to a High School minor league organization to work with kids! And guess what, he sexually assaulted again :rage:

There was a huge coverup, lies, deceit.
Oh, by the way,
CHI won 3 Stanley Cups while this was knowingly going on.
This sexual offender has his name engraved on the Stanley Cup!
:see_no_evil: :hear_no_evil: :speak_no_evil:

Joel Quenneville to have a hearing tomorrow. Current head coach of the Panthers yet they allow him behind the bench tonight?

Jet’s GM Cheveldayoff to have a hearing on Monday.

‘John Doe’ in this is Kyle Beach who bravely came out today

Some more heads are sure to roll. The Blackhawks have turned into a clown organization in short order…yet the Leafs are still trailing them…grrrr

Edit: Leafs with it in OT on Nylander’s 3rd

You have to think this deviant Video Coach had many more victims,
Now that this brave victim has exposed this guy for what he is and how the "team" of big name people knowingly covered it up,
More victims will be stepping forward
IMHO, This could end up quite deservedly costing the Blackhawks massive millions in lawsuits.
It is a huge black eye for the League
A 10 year Cap penalty of $5M/yr and multiple draft penalties would be a start

I am no lawyer, but could there not be lawsuits against Bowman and any of the other management team (including Joel Quenneville) as well?

And how about Don Fehr, head of the NHLPA, who claims he was unaware yet one of the doctors of the NHLPA was aware?

To me, yesterday’s reveal could be just the tip of the iceberg.

You really seem to love the conspiracies more than the sport itself man lol
First screaming for Kane’s blood and now this “huge” coverup

Seriously?
Beach was a fringe player who never even dressed for a game
The idea that an executive or a gm would have anything to do with him is laughable
Even moreso during a cup run

If you get sexually assaulted at your work do you walk into the CEOs office to file a complaint?
You go through HR

I fail to see any scandal here at all it looks more like a player who could not cut it coming back after he retires to try and get a payday

Chicago dumped him (for Mashinter) who actually managed to crack the roster

You are certainly entitled to your opinion as do I.
Your opinion is completely opposite of mine

Grover and Tony make good points. I agree with the sentiment that the NHL discipline is miniscule, especially considering the discipline meted out to the Coyotes for a far lesser offence. I am not sure about lawsuits, however, as the limitation period has probably expired. Perhaps Beach has already sued. I am also aware that the entire independent report was posted online by the Black Hawks, to their credit. I have not yet had an opportunity to read it but plan to do so. Perhaps someone can post a link?

As to responsibility, that is a difficult question. Generally it should go to the person in charge mostly, in this case the GM. He appears to have paid the ultimate price, losing his job. While it appears that many knew about this, including players, realistically you can’t expect those not in charge, even Quenneville, to make decisions. Quenneville was not in charge of the offending trainer.

I strongly disagree with the post I am replying to. This coverup fits the definition of scandal. Many people had this information and nothing was done for quite some time. Even then a letter of recommendation was signed which permitted Sandusky to continue to abuse at his next position, which he eventually was convicted of doing. If it was your son he abused I doubt you would be saying that there was no scandal here and that the only responsibility belongs to the actual abuser.

After posting this originally (this is an edit), I realized that I overlooked replying to your puzzling statement about Beach being a fringe player who never dressed for a game. Are you saying that players should be afforded different levels of protection based on their hockey ability and on ice value to the team? You also indicate that an executive or GM having anything to do with him is “laughable”. While it may very well be that an executive or GM (his direct boss) has little to do with him, in this case the abuse was reported and a meeting was held and at the very least at that time all executives and the GM were aware of it.

As for Kane, he is a narcissistic team cancer that hopefully will have seen his last days in the league. His fellow Sharks sure don’t seem very enthusiastic about having him back so I doubt he will ever play there again. Being from Winnipeg I am very aware that his act quickly got tired with fans and teammates. He posted numerous photographs of himself supposedly swimming in cash in Las Vegas hotel rooms, when it turns out those pictures must have been taken on a rare day he won or he borrowed someone else’s cash. Those pictures were obnoxious at best. His teammates famously dunked his tracksuit in an ice bath. He was gone shortly after. His act wore thin in Buffalo as well. Now has he not only committed a selfish fraud with his COVID lies, but he has also gambled on hockey (but apparently not on his own team, wink wink!) and is also accused of physically throttling his wife, not to mention cheating on her multiple times- not a crime but still an indictment of his character or lack thereof. He makes Pete Rose look like Mother Theresa. I would be happy to see this human piece of s**t out of the league for good.

Mine as well!

I was thinking the same thing about this comment.

So the victim is to blame immediately based on his stature in the organization as opposed to a thorough investigation of charges and oh, well, look at that at least one cover-up, as if that should be ignored?

And go solely through HR when wronged by your employer? Heh. Have you ever been fired from a job before? C’mon now.

You bet there will be lawsuits. And what usually happens is after all the lawyers have several meetings, there is a hefty settlement contingent upon several terms including stringent non-disclosure agreements signed by all parties.

The NHL wants this to go away more quickly in this era too, and it is not a league in an icy vacuum given what has transpired and is transpiring in the NFL that is getting an awful lot more attention yet comes with legal consequences for all professional sports leagues operating in the US.

Looks like Quenneville is in the way out

Torortella will be interesting to watch in FLA....lol

Edit: Quenneville resigns

Jet's GM Cheveldayoff's meeting with Bettman has been moved up from Monday to tomorrow. I've got a feeling the only GM in the modern Jet's history....will be history too

As I said to Jon above, this happened to a very athletic 20+ year old male. Who comes back years later after not making the pros in hockey for an obvious payday.

Also Aldrich was forced to resign the same season the allegations were made. Aldrich said it was consensual.

Oh and remember (for @Jon also) there was a WITNESS to the alleged rape (as both of them had a MMF threesome that night). It hardly sounds like “rape” to me…

From the report:
Today, John Doe and Brad Aldrich have widely divergent recollections of the
sexual encounter, but both men agree an encounter occurred. The heart of the
difference between the two recollections is not only what occurred during the encounter, but most critically whether the encounter was consensual. John
Doe stated that the encounter was entirely non-consensual. John Doe stated,
among other details, that on one occasion, during the second week of May
2010, Aldrich invited him to his apartment, provided him with dinner and
drinks, told him he had the power to get John Doe onto the Blackhawks’ roster,
and turned on pornography. John Doe stated that Aldrich threatened John Doe
by telling John Doe he needed to act like he enjoyed the sexual encounter or
John Doe would never play in the NHL “or walk” again, forcibly performed oral
sex on John Doe, masturbated on John Doe’s back, and then threatened John
Doe again before John Doe was able to escape Aldrich’s apartment.

Brad Aldrich stated that the encounter was entirely consensual. Aldrich
stated, among other details, that he brought John Doe and a woman from a bar
to Aldrich’s apartment, played strip poker, and engaged in oral sex with the
woman, but not with John Doe. Aldrich further stated that after the woman
left Aldrich’s apartment, Aldrich and Doe watched pornography, Aldrich
received permission to engage in a sexual encounter with John Doe, Aldrich
performed oral sex on John Doe, and Aldrich received a “hand job” from John
Doe.
The woman present at the beginning of the encounter described by Aldrich
was located and interviewed as part of this investigation. The woman recalled
being present for and engaging in sexual activity with John Doe and Aldrich in
Aldrich’s apartment in Chicago, but leaving at a certain point while Aldrich and
John Doe remained at Aldrich’s apartment. Her version of events contradicts
certain of Aldrich’s statements, and also contradicts certain of John Doe’s
statements, who said that he went to Aldrich’s apartment building with the
woman on a different evening, but the woman left before entering the
apartment and no sexual encounter with the woman occurred.

Wow. Hard to know what to say to that attempt at misdirection. I assume you are quoting the report and if so you should have said so or otherwise said where you are getting the info from you are passing off as fact.

I will say that the kid wasn’t 20+ and Aldrich was in a position of power over him. It is impossible to have consent in that context, just like teacher/student or cop/perp. Management then decided that whatever occurred was less important than their ongoing Cup run and a few weeks later wrote Aldrich a glowing letter of recommendation. He then did it again, this time getting convicted. If any of his victims were your son or daughter I find it hard to believe you would still be trying to justify this behavior and I strongly suggest you stop doing so.

???
What misdirection???

I wrote (word for word) “from the report” as the very first line !!!

Your response is “I assume you are quoting the report” … ???

I KNOW you did not even read what was posted (nor the actual report) because:
A) it clearly indicates there were MULTIPLE people involved (not just Aldrich and Beach). There were a couple players and at least 1 woman.
B) … WHAT position of power??? Aldritch had no way to further the kids career based on where they both were at the time lol

You gotta be trolling man the 2 responses you typed make no sense whatsoever

In my experience those without a good argument make accusations. Trolling? Give me a break. I didn’t read your post? Ridiculous. I didn’t read the report? If you read my posts on this topic earlier today I stated I hadn’t read the report and asked whether anyone had a link to it. The second time I looked at your post after my reply I did notice that the report was now cited. I also noticed the red editing pen icon that wasn’t there before. Like I said, misdirection. And that’s a pretty kind word to describe your rant. I think your post is inappropriate and won’t be responding further.

Oh and also more nonsense since you claim Hawks gave him a “glowing letter of recommendation”

The report also very clearly says he was given no references whatsoever
On both the resign and hiring sides

Wanna see real misdirection?
You misread the post then make some foolish (baseless) accusation claiming I edited it

The “red pen” shows edit occur at 10:59PM
You responded at 11:19PM

So points for effort but more baseless nonsense
The red pen was ALWAYS there BEFORE you typed your 1st reply lol

As it doesn’t appear that they will be taking down your sexual assault coverup supporting post, I’ll reply one more time only.

I have mentioned several times that I haven’t read the actual report, I don’t have access to it but would read it if I did. I don’t know what it said, if anything, about a letter of recommendation, however, that was widely reported as having occurred by numerous reliable media sources and that is where I was getting that information. I am not clear as to whether you are saying that letter was simply not mentioned or whether the report specifically found no such letter existed. No matter, that fact or non fact is a red herring and doesn’t change the gist of the report.

That is that the Black Hawks brass was well aware of the complaint made by Beach (he didn’t come forward only years later) and in fact held a high level management meeting about it. All of the heads of those present at the meeting are now rolling, with Cheveldayoff up next. That is because the Hawks decided to sweep the allegations under the rug, at least until the more important playoffs were over, Management therefore made a conscious decision to put aside the allegations for approximately 3 weeks. During this time Aldrich struck again, sexually assaulting an intern. The Hawks then finally got around to politely asking him to leave quietly. In spite of this he was given a severance package, playoff bonus money and allowed to continue to celebrate the Cup victory with the team and had his name engraved on the Cup and had the Cup for a day. Some of the celebrations Aldrich was involved in took place in the face of Beach.

The Hawks are of course liable for this as they are liable as the parent company for whatever occurred in their minor league system which they own. They also could be liable for the further sexual assaults committed by Aldrich as they did nothing and warned no one. I am not sure what the law is in Illinois but in Canada it is true that you generally do not have to report a crime unless it involves a minor, but that does not excuse the morally reprehensible behaviour of the Black Hawks management. For all intents and purposes Beach was a minor and likely lacked in many areas of development. Kids like him often leave home at 14 or 15 although I do not know how long he had been away from home specifically. Predators such as Aldrich and Graham James take advantage of these hopeful, lonely budding hockey players for their own abhorrent purposes. They are in a position of power, even if they are not that person’s direct boss. When you top that off with the “I’m reading the newspaper Gladys, talk to me in 3 weeks” response by the Black Hawks, it is not hard to see why or to justify what appears to be the end of many NHL careers. I would still rather be Bowman, Quenneville or Chevy than be Beach. The loss of their careers is minor and will have nowhere near the impact that they did upon Beach.

I fail to see why you continue to use misdirection to gloss over, refute and excuse what occurred. I just hope no one starts a thread on Peter Nygard. I have a pretty good idea of what your response would be.

The dates are very clearly laid out in the report and nothing you say Jon matches any basis in reality
They actually break down day by day what happened

The only issue I see is that after Aldritch was informed of the investigation they let his resignation become official after the celebration (in my opinion) because they paid him out his $15,000 bonus for winning the Cup

If he resigned during final he would have gotten paid less

The timeline you quote is beyond wonky and totally contradicts reality

HR was informed on June 14 (and they clearly state the victim NEVER contacted them, witnesses were the only source of info as they then interviewed people, as Aldritch only came to light after he hit on a front office intern. John Doe never came forward)
(it then goes into excruciating detail about who spoke when) and June 16 was Aldritch interview
He resigned so as not to participate in an investigation and was given no references at all

As part of the separation he was allowed to attend a 1 day celebration in his (Aldritch) hometown Houghton, MI to host the Stanley Cup in Sep 2010
