2015 Pam Am Games Bid - New Stadium For Hamilton?

I haven't seen this posted yet so I will start a new topic.

Canada Could Bid For 2015 Pan American Games

If Canada bids for the Pan Am Games, events could be held in several communities in the province of Ontario’s “Golden Horseshoe? including St. Catharine’s, Barrie, Toronto and Hamilton; and residents of those communities would benefit from the new facilities that would be built.

If a new stadium becomes in the works, I'd love to see it built on the bayfront rail yard.

Another possible stadium-by-international-event route that has been speculated on is a possible joint US-Canada World Cup bid that would involve new stadia being built in Canada re the hosting of group stages across Canada (Southern Ontario in particular, Halifax with a New England group stage, etc.). The Pan-Am route is another possibility. Unless IWS collapses in some calamitous event, I don't think a new stadium is going to materialize outside of an international event situation as the impetus for public funds being made available for that purpose.

Oski Wee Wee,

I don't know if this site has ever been mentioned ,but how about the Martin Golf course@ chedoke for a possible site for a new stadium.?
Awsome site looking over the bay,if designed properly, and close to the escarpment.
Close to all major roads and plenty of room for parking.
It is city owned and the last time I played there in the fall, well lets say the city isn't taking good care of it.keep the Beddoe course though.!

Please No Why Waist the Money on Bid.
When we could Use it to fix IWS
Still have Money to fix Some bad Roads in Hamilton

I hope you realize that the economic impact of the PanAm games and a Grey Cup would be in the 100's in millions of dollars. There would be nothing better for this area.

i never want a new stadium. Ivor Wynne is the best in the league, there is no other stadium that offers such great views from any seat.

I agree with you.

I love to see the Stadium Returned to it glora days.

if we do get a new stadium does that mean it's gonna have a track

IMO it not a Postive thing at all.
There so little in East End now.
The Tigercats Bring in People Each and Every year.
They Spend there money in the east end.

Upgrading IWS Could only help.
Could see Packers Bears or Chiefs not at old Home Fields

There is alot happening in the EAST area...ALL POSITIVE
1.the redevelopment of Ottawa st to Kenilworth. business area
2. 100 million dollars redevelopment of the Centre Mall
3. 8 million dollars into Gage Park starting later this year

I think its time to knock the "old girl down"
the Pan American games could only help the economy in this area.

If a new stadium is in the works with the Pan-Am Games or whatever, I wonder what land is available or would be available in the steel factory areas that are on the waterfront? Are Stelco and Dofasco in any way going to downsize in the future there and will lands be available? No idea but worth looking at.

Just Because something is old
Dose not mean you get rid of it.
Look at Fenway Park it opened on April 20, 1912.

It's Still Going Strong..
This could be Our Fenway
New Dose not always Mean Better.

The Sight lines could be worse.
The Prices will go up
Look at Rogers Center Food Prices (YIKES)
All you beer lovers
A Beer here is Cheep Compared to The Dome.
You Complaining now about tickets wait see the bill with a new Stadium.

We don't need a Place even close to Rogers Center.
But that what you'll get with a new Stadium.

I thought I had read it all on this site but I guess I was wrong.catfan13 wants to rip up the Chedoke Martin Golf Course in order to build a stadium. According to catfan there is plenty of parking and you could still preserve the adjoining Beddoe Course.I'm sure the people who recently bought homes in the new development on Beddoe Drive would be thrilled to know they would be living "cheek to jowl" with a stadium.Obviously the loss of prime recreational land does not concern catfan13 nor the historical importance of this neighbourhood to the city.
I don't often lose my cool but this is without a doubt the most absurd idea I have ever seen on this site. To quote Andy from Shawshank Redemption, "How can you be so obtuse?"
Pat Lynch (the old guy in section 7 )

Onknight, if the Pan-Am Games thing happens, the track events won't be at IWS that's for sure.

Are you suggesting that the people around the Aberdeen area are more important than the people who bought homes around the bay area..or where ever else people have suggested to build a stadium?

I am saying that you don't eliminate recreational land in the middle of the city.If a new stadium were to be built, use existing "brownfield" land.

There is always a NIMBY attitude going on.

I would like to put a new stadium wherever it would offer maximum benefit to the city.

I still say clearing out old abandoned factories and warehousing west of Barton/Bay is the best location.

Just a question is it not at all feasible
to take down Ivor Wynne and build it on the same spot except new? It would keep the area and bring in some other things. Would it also not be cheaper to purchase some of the homes and or parking areas around the stadium then to purchase a large piece of land required for a new stadium. I realize that people may not want to sell but if I were there I would sure think about it if the price was good. If it cost say 50 million to purchase several blocks around Ivor Wynne I would say why not do that?

There could be a major redevelopment a la Ottawa's proposal. New businesses, hotels, right around the new stadium yet at least some amount of history remains. the initial investment gets returned easily through a "complex type" new stadium.

Thoughts,

Rev
