It's a football game. The championship game! You need something that'll get you pumped. Magic is cool, but it's not going to get me excited to watch some football.
Too similar to the Wendy’s Kick for a Million contest that is already running so it wouldn’t happen.
music is the best because people can listen but not stay in their seats if they don’t want to. You can go off and meet friends, have a drink and listen to music in the background… can’t really do that with things that need to be watched and/or listened to in order to get the full value.
I’d love to see a ‘super-group’ made up of the members of Spirit of the West (front man John Mann LOVES CFL), Great Big Sea and Ashley McIsaac … Let those guys string together 3-4 barn burners and the place would be hopping! The night SOTW and GBS played in Toronto at the pre-GC parties was one of the best GC events I’ve ever been at!
Other great groups for any part of Grey Cup festivities could be Tin Star Orphans or the Trews, if it hasn’t been said. Also Wintersleep, going to see them in a few weeks. Man we have so many great groups in Canada. Also The Spades out of Peterborough. … We all know so many great local groups.
Last year I lobbied for Gordon Lightfoot or Anne Murray... but a the GC parties we have, we don't the halftime show... we discuss the game or go outside a have a cigar... so I really don't care who performs...
Ugh... No way in hell should Anne Murray be allowed anywhere near the Grey Cup!!! When I was young, my mom made all of us kids listen to Murray's Christmas CD throughout the holidays. We plotted to steal and destroy that CD on more than one occassion. Then one year our prayers were answered. The CD mysterious disappeared. To this day we still have no idea what happened to it...
It’s true Earl, there’s a lot of great talent in the alt/rock scene in Canada. I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve heard a song I like on the radio, go look it up on the internet, and find out the band is from Canada. Wintersleep is one example, Arkells too, Tokyo Police Club, Broken Social Scene, USS… I could go on. There’s no shortage of quality acts to satisfy the “Can Con” requirement of Canadian radio stations, and maybe some day the Grey Cup halftime stage. It doesn’t matter to some people, but it can pique the interest of others, especially the home audience, who might not otherwise pay attention. That’s a good thing in my opinion.
