And here I was thinking all we needed were 12 guys with big hearts.
:|While I don’t agree with all of what King there said, he is correct with most of it.
Saddly football in Ottawa doesn’t seem Viable due to:
Frank Clair Concessions deal, Frank Clair Stadium deals, Frank Clair Luxury box deals, Ottawa/Ontario Taxation(a decent chunk of Ticket %), inability to sell stadium naming rights.
Sad fact: the Ottawa Renagades paid more for Less in their Rental agreement for Frank Clair in 2005 compared to the Argos.
The Gades only Rented it for games, like the Argos but the Argos got MORE access to game-day Revenues for LESS money.
That’s right access to the 190+ Luxury boxes are Rogerscenter for less then the… MAYBE 10 at Frank Clair the Gades deal gave.(Aramark hold Frank Clairs concessions rights for some reason… dumb Ottawa Gov)
CFL football can work in Ottawa.
-
Stadium upgrade - no point in broaching the subject of a new stadium until a viable tenant has utilized the existing facility for a number of years consecutively.
-
The CFL needs to step in and help a new ownership group negotiate a stadium lease, complete with concession percentages - based on a league average.
-
Ownership who hire qualified football administrators, who then hire quality operations and marketing personnel...
Tom Wright for club president would lend instant credibility and experience.
3a. Owners who are smart enough NOT to meddle with the day-to-day football operations! -
A competitive draft - a city can only go through "expansion" so many times.
-
Professional image - forget the dumb gimmicks, if the organization shows a longterm commitment to stability and excellence (not penny-pinching, high-level infighting, and bargain-hunting), the fans will come.
first of all i dont understand how they can support an NHL franchise and then second of all ottawa is the capital city of canada so why cant they support a CFL team?

Simple. One is run professionally, the other was run…well, actually it wasn’t really run at all. The prez was too busy running the slopes in Michigan.
The huge problem in Ottawa is FCS, we really need the CFL and city hall to work together and agree on a lease and concessions deal that will make potential owners welcome.
