What about getting the commissioner or someone else from the CFL offices involved?
Great letter. Excellent language. vbeers galeforce.
Yah! I wrote them at the start of the '09 season and asked them why they had Habs 100 years coins but not Grey Cup 100 years coins. I got the "thanks for your interest" boiler plate as a response. I think that it simply fell through the cracks, but if enough of us tell them its importance, they'll listen.

Snail mail. How quaint. Apparently the Mint is still operating in the last century. :thdn:
I should also point out that that letter, while well written, doesn't actually follow all the rules contained in the Mint's rather involved instructions email.
I suggest people contact their MP, because I have a bad feeling about this stodgy suggestion process. Maybe if a member of parliament brings it up it will light a fire under the bureaucrats who stamp REJECTED on the suggestion mail they have to read.
I would think we’d need to contact MPs, the Mint, and someone within the league (perhaps just head office, perhaps the offices of each individual team as well).
A written and signed letter will always receive more attention than spam (i.e. a five second email).
There was a time when the written letter was the way to go, but that was a long time ago. And nowhere did anyone suggest that email was the preferred route either.
What is needed is an official on-line submission form. In the very least there should be a download-able PDF form that one can fill out and send back.
By saying that they only take snail mail submissions, they’re basically telling you not to bother, because they aren’t interested in your suggestions.
Update for those interested… I sent a letter to the Royal Canadian Mint and received a response in the mail today. They said:
You will be pleased to learn that tthe Mint has already been in touch with the Canadian Football League, and that we are currently in the process of reviewing the opportunity to issue a commemorative coin to mark this significant milestone.
That's great news. Hopefully something comes from it. We must commemorate such an important part of Canadian history.
That's great! I hope it's a circulation coin.
Yeah, when I wrote the mint from their 'Comments' page. They seem'd fairly inquisitive. And the response I got seem'd like they would email mark cohon. (as i provided them with his email, as it was not hard to track down)
So now im in the hurry up and wait stage... I want my CFL coin!
I'll be grabbing a few if these are made, that's for sure.
Hey this is great! Nice going by those who took the time to write
I'm happy that I was wrong and that the mint seems to have taken this suggestion seriously. I can't wait to see what it comes up with. A circulation coin would be fantastic.
I realize that you have been referring to the Mint. However, the CFL does have some fine corporate sponsors such as Wendy's. Why not have Wendy's make available for purchase anniversary coins? You could have a coin where on one side would be an embossed "100th Anniversary Grey Cup Logo" and on the other side could be the logo of the team and the years in which they won the Grey Cup. Teams like Queen's University who just won the Vanier Cup also won the Grey Cup back in the day. They could also sell a board that would hold the entire collection. Wendy's could sell one or two per week during the entire season.
McDonald's does a good job in selling NHL collectibles.
Shell Oil sold commemorative Prime Minister coins in 1968-1969. It was a collection of 15 coins (Macdonald - Trudeau).
There’s a thread in the Riders Forum about a 100th anniversary loonie for the Riders. According to the last post in that thread, special coins need to be planned 2 years in advance, so unless somebody thought it about this a while ago, the time has probably passed for a Rider loonie. The 100th Grey Cup, however, is scheduled for 2012, still more than 2 years away, so it’s not too late to mark that date with a coin or a coin series (might be too late for a series), unless it gets started. Perhaps a Grey Cup loonie and/or a series of quarters, one for each team. Whaddya think?
I’m game!!

Might you have the PM coins?
