All-time great Blue Bomber running back Jim "Jay" Washington passed away on June 24th at the age of 66.

Jay joined the Blue Bombers in 1974. He was a CFL All-Star and won the Eddie James Memorial Trophy in 1976 and again in 1977 when he rushed for 1277 and 1262 yards respectively. He was for a time the fastest runner in the CFL.

When he retired after the 1979 season with 6127 yards on the ground, his total rushing yardage was second on the all-time Blue Bomber list behind only that of the legendary Leo Lewis.

Very sad. Jay was a true Bomber great.

Radically Canadian!

Truly sad. Remember him well. Thank you for posting.

Was very good teamed up with Richard Crump in the backfield. One of the first thunder and lightning combinations.

Check out the hole the O line made for him in the picture. Recognize John Bonk and Butch Norman.

Condolences to the family.

J Washington was a monster running back in the mid-70s for a bomber team that could never quite get its act together, on or off the field. Never could get the fans a "complete team" but lots of stars passed thru the organization.

None were better athletes and running backs than J Washington. Ralph Dieter Brock was a crazy talented QB but without much guidance and a full team of weapons to bring home a championship.

On a humorous side-note I'll never forget bomber coach Ray Jauch referring to Jay Washington as J Wershington!
WAITING FOR A  MIRACLE - 28 YEARS, COUNTING!

…..Too young....Washington could really move and perfected the 'sweep'...Besides Brock's great arm he was his other weapon..Sad to see ex.Bombers leave this world at any time but at 66??? ….way too early
...one of the most integral parts overlooked in conversation....is to hear what\'s NOT being said....Anonymous
