Saw a Muamba to Toronto story that made sense. Missassauga boy and all and a nice add for the Argos. Would free up  Bear Woods.
Personally don't see Woods coming to Winnipeg. Could see a too many alpha's in the pen scenario with MOS. We know who wins those.
Not sure we see any further signings for a bit but would like to see them pick up Greg Morris from Sask as a returner / specialist. Might have been papazoola that first mentioned him.
Load up on the nationals, home town ones in particular. This is what the Bombers need imo.

Surprised to not see Jake Thomas re - signed. Seemed to have a good year and have the blessing and loyalty / rewards needed. Would say a veteran leader if asked.
If that is it for Fatboi I would like to see Eddy Steele brought in to continue building on the trend and a heck of a player to add to the team. Ekakatie's salary screws that up but there should be a way to make it work.
Just saying.

......Muamba might start his tour again...I believe he passed us by in the last one.....most likely will again....Argos' might be a spot for Henoc , although I think he was po'd at Popp for cutting him when he was an Al.....He'll end up on someone's roster as he has the right passport....Not that upset if we don't bring him in....might be too expensive at any rate

.....I like what we've done in fa this year....MLB still needs to be addressed as I don't think we have the horses to really plug the middle.....Bringing in our wandering hometown boys is going to bring out a few more to the park....How successful they'll be remains to be seen...Demski has a chance to really shine and Lafrance working with Harris should up his game...We shall see
...one of the most integral parts overlooked in conversation....is to hear what\'s NOT being said....Anonymous

Simple question for the money-counter types!

When you add a player like Muamba and whatever his salary might be - do you have to make cap space for him at the time of signing or shuffle salaries (cuts, re-negotiations, etc.) after the fact? In simple terms - at what point is a team's salary total calculated?
WAITING FOR A  MIRACLE - 28 YEARS, COUNTING!

I'm not the guy for that one Lyle but believe there are dates related to roster size. Would guess the Bombers could add and be over but would have to get down to the limit at some point.

Will also admit I have no idea what anyone is paid and what to believe as far as sms goes. Adarius Bowman at $140,000 and Jake Harty at $125,000? Hope Ambrosie gets that end in order after the Bombers win the cup.

Hearing from Walters press conference that they are high on Frank Renaud at LB. Egad.

They are high is a rather obvious observation - the question is - on what? My guess - Mike O'Shea had another smelling salts party!

Not sure about Frank but wondering about Taylor Loffler moving to MLB. Believe he would meet the size and attitude requirements of the position. Two years in as a tackling machine. Similar reads.

Jones takes over at safety and becomes an all star.

Looks good on paper.

Cfldb.ca compensation has a very informative post on all things $$.
There is both a max and, surprise to me, a minimum cap.
IR doesn't count and you have to be at or under at end of regular season.
Players get salary/18 and are paid every game....
Very interesting reading for all us
Guessing on cap related matters.

Roster limit is 85...you have room

Ditch Dressler to supplement some of Muamba.  Bowman/Adams/Washington (or other) and 2 Canadians at WR...done.  Bowman and Adams are the key targets, bring in some youth for that last import spot and save the $$$.  You already have Lankford there for depth.  Not a stud WR, but he can get the job done if needed.  There are also some guys with experience out there.  Collins is a good WR who has been sitting around since the Cats released him, Fuller is around and great but a potential band aide, and of course Denmark.  Point being, free up some cash and the Bombers have a few solid WR prospects and there are guys floating around if they want some insurance at some point.

I really thought they would be going the DT route...but Muamba works.

I like Dressler, but cmon...if it was Dressler vs an impact ratio changer that seems a no brainer at 33 years old.  If Bowman had not been picked up I would not be saying that likely.  It is the same with the Riders...it is a head scratcher why 35k was paid already to him and then let go...they could have dropped Owens or Dyakowki and made it work pretty easily.  Hell, Richardson is at 80k...that likely covers a lot of it.  220-35k is 185.  You are paying a vet 120-180 to go in there, so best case they are saving 65k...unless it is a first contract player, then it is >100k.  This said, there were other factors contributing to his release.

Honestly, I I think the Bombers are in better cap shape than last season, but sill tight.  I do think that when you are looking for that 7th solid ratio spot you make this happen though, unless it is over 210k.

There is a sound bite of Walters stating there will be 8 teams interested in him, so they are interested to some degree.  This seems like a no brainer to chase a bit.

yes, the minimum is 4.6mil this year.  It goes up 50k per season, just like the cap on the SMS

I am guessing everyone ends up within 300k of top end annually though.  Low end is nice to prevent a dirtbag owner from bleeding money when he knows he is selling I guess....but I can't imagine anyone actually hitting it.

Very interesting idea.  I tend to agree he has the skillset and the mentality to excel there.  I would fear he is undersized though.  I don't actually think it would effect his actual play other than perhaps smashing the line (you can strategize around that), but I would be concerned with him holding up.  He is even leaner than Hurl is.  I feel like a MLB should be in that 36-39lb/foot range, give or take (general indicator obviously).  Hurl lands in that...that is the appeal...his reaction time is what kills him.  Loffler is right on the low edge of that.

Really interesting idea though.  I would definitely give him some rotations there in camp.  Here's to hoping the staff sees it as well.

I like the Loffler @ MLB idea, too. However, Taylor is fairly fragile when it comes to his legs - at MLB he'd be in far more pile-ups and fracases  - so the idea might not sit well w either Loffler or an analytical DC (fortunately Richie Hall isn't that analytical)

As for dropping Dressler off the main roster (putting him on IR would be one alternative) I don't think that happens on a team that values loyalty-rewards over wins & losses.

Yes, Dressler is 33 going on 34, still a great WR - but very fragile on big or medium contact. Optimally the guy delivers 12 to 14 games but in reality he might only be good for 8 to 10 matches.

At $175k (or thereabouts) that's a big waste of coin for a fragile older player.

Now Muamba would be a good add immo. He's experienced, he's very good, he's canuck. His only downfall is he may not be as good a house-boy (in the room) as he once was. He's independent minded in his late 20s. O'Shea & Walters don't like independent thinkers. They don't qualify for the loyalty/rewards card.

Plus, with Westerman gone, Muamba possibly in - the D_line becomes the focus. Its pretty skimpy now. There's really no rush with it because the strength/power factor is weak in many opinions. Lots of try - but opposing QBs will have all day to find their 2nd, 3rd and 4th targets with The Budget Boys trying to generate rushes & sacks.

Muamba was the best player on the team his last outing with the Bombers and would be nothing but positive this go around. Only hold back is salary. I like Dressler but would dump him in a second to gain Muamba. Only have to worry about salary cap when the reg season ends. Lots of room to wiggle. I say go all out and get the Cup first, then pay the piper. Jersey and cap sales alone might cover any fines.

Justin Dunk saying that Akeem Jordan graded out better then Bear Woods and took playing time from him towards the end of the season. May be a good idea to not get caught up in the hype around Woods. He has promoted himself well with the dreads and his play and will find a spot but perhaps better if not in Winnipeg.
Curious if Cory Greenwood is healthy and working out. Don't know what harm a no bonus invite to camp would do. Could probably sit on that for another 6 weeks to get a feel.
Still liking the Eddy Steele idea for what he brings to the locker room. Liked you while you were here Jake Thomas. Thanks for coming out.

.....It would be nice to fix the mlb spot with Muamba....but only if the price is right....Signing him and hope like hell you can scrape together the cash, and remain below the sms somehow, is the Corky way of doing things in Regina...I think that Taman the 'napkin boy' in green ville is Jonesie's new adviser ..Don't go down that road
