A good read here on upcoming minicamp

60 seeking to impress Ticat coaches

"One of those vacant positions is undoubtedly at kicker and the Ticats are expected to have at least six players at mini-camp hoping to impress Austin and new special teams co-ordinator, Dennis McKnight.

Jordan Gay, who served as a kickoff specialist for 33 games over three seasons with Buffalo Bills before being released last December, will be among them. So will Sergio Castillo, who was originally signed by the Ticats before seeing limited time with Winnipeg and Ottawa the last two seasons."

"Beyond the kicker, the Ticats will likely be looking for qualified candidates at a couple of other key spots. The departure of American starting tackle Drake Nevis via free agency has created an opening along the defensive line and the secondary will feature fierce competition for at least two and potentially three vacancies: the team currently has a whopping 22 defensive backs under contract and as many as a dozen of them could be in attendance next week."

"And while the mini-camp roster will be packed largely with unknowns there will be a few quasi-familiar faces in attendance, mostly players who still qualify as rookies because they have not yet appeared in eight CFL games.
That list likely includes defensive backs Cleshawn Page and Elroy Douglas as well receiver Brian Tyms, who played well in limited action late last season."

I like the abundance of DBs actually. A diamond in the rough is the best thing we can do right now. A proven starter isn't falling in our lap and developing one is fiscally prudent.

23 at last count or exactly half of a game day roster worth of DB's to sift through for what will probably amount to maybe 10 -12 jobs tops including the active / reserve / practice and IL . By the way , look for more then a few of these DB candidates to be auditioning for the vacant SAM lb position as well .

Lets face it our secondary last year with very few exceptions was our Defence's achilles heel most nights and basically a very hot tire fire most of the year due to injury / incompetency / lack of depth /continuity etc etc . Changes had to be made . It was in my opinion without a doubt the worst secondary this team has fielded since the forgettable 2012 season when our DB's were akin to having a 5 man burn unit out on the field basically every game .

Personally I honestly feel like our secondary we are putting together for this season has the potential to be one of the best if not the best in the entire league this year . That is if and it's a very big if it seems with this team , we can actually stay away from serious injuries that unfortunately put the secondary behind the eight ball last year from day one of T.Camp . It was something we never fully recovered from and it got progressively worse as the season went along .

So I'm liking and really not minding all the signings of DB's this off-season . Like I said a good number of them will be tried out at SAM and as for the rest of them ? Strength in numbers is always a good thing in my book , the more we can keep around town the better . Hopefully we will be better prepared and equipped this year from the start unlike last season where from the get go the obvious lack of depth in the secondary was blatantly apparent and was sorely lacking and hurt this team all season long .

Seven kickers on the field before #Ticats mini-camp punting in the rain. So that competition has already begun. #CFL

#Ticats sign QB Matt Johnson, which I already told you about, and WR Devon Breaux. That last name sounds familiar... (yes, they're related.)

No such thing as a bad Breaux!

They will be on the field for minicamp today
