There is quite an interesting story about Kay Okafor that you can read here: https://www.cfl.ca/2017/04/21/prospect- ... -football/

He moved up to 15th overall in the CFL Scouting Bureau rankings, as you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_CFL_Draft

So yeah, those scouting rankings don't quite indicate how the draft will go.

Here's another interesting article on Okafor: http://www.cfl.ca/2017/04/17/comparison ... ay-okafor/

Here are quotes from that article that I thought were interesting:

The scouting report on St. Francis Xavier’s Kay Okafor could be reduced to this: dominant athlete but raw with a ton of room for improvement.

Okafor is still relatively new to the game of football but continues to demonstrate a high ceiling that CFL.ca’s Marshall Ferguson says teams at the professional level should be clamouring to try and mold.

...

“Okafor has shown flashes of brilliance on game tape since emigrating from Nigeria to Holland College in Prince Edward Island before finding a home with the St.FX X-men.”

...

Whoever ends up drafting him will have to be patient but Okafor’s natural ability speaks for itself. The upside will be hard for GMs to ignore on draft day.

...

“Okafor will need plenty of refinement at the CFL level but any coach would be ecstatic to work with a man that large and genuine in his approach to the game.”

I think that second-last quote says it all about Okafor right now. As someone who is that new to the game (as he came here from Nigeria not long ago), it may take time to for him to play as well as he potentially can. But apparently, he has plenty of potential.

With the 38th overall pick, we take DL Justin Vaughn, according to what it says here: http://www.cfl.ca/draft-tracker/2017/

That's right, another lineman. But you know what they say about where games are won and lost.

Here's a tweet about Vaughn:

#Ticats take Justin Vaughn, a local kid, a good run stopper, love his size, could be an edge guy in a 30-front. #CFLDraft #CFL

I should mention that Winnipeg picked kicker Felix Menard-Briere earlier. Some thought we'd take him, but I think the team will probably go with an American K/P.

And we just picked Guelph WR Jacob Scarfone.

Scarfone great pick up. The best receiver in 2016 before he blew out his knee. Finally right on a pick!

It was unfortunate that Scarfone had to sit out all of last season, I'm quite sure he would've been drafted sooner of it were not for that injury.

Our 7th round pick is coming up.

Back to the trenches we go, as the next player this team drafted is Laurier OL Brett Golding.

And in the eighth round, we go with Montreal RB Sean Thomas-Erlington.

Well, that's it for this year's draft. Maybe we would've been able to pick Vandervoort if it were not for the retirement of Shawn Gore.

Well, looking back on the first post of this thread about priorities...

#2......Offensive Line
#3......Defensive Tackle

#5......Linebacker

It looks like in the war room, they thought the #1 priority was what you considered the #3 priority. But of course, the team may have just been going with the best player available regardless of which position that player plays. On the other hand, it can be good to have Canadian talent in the trenches, and that may be the reason most of our picks were linemen.

I don't see any top ranked Linemen in the bunch that Austin picked. But maybe he see's something we don't.

Schram is a solid physical specimen at 6’3, 311 who put up solid testing numbers and had a respectable showing in the combine’s one-on-ones. Schram’s best asset is his passion for the game

The Dinos product took reps at every offensive line position at the CFL combine.

Schram and Spooner were the highest ranked OL's available at that pick(Spooner went #15 to WPG)
(Senior and Gray had NFL contracts)

#Ticats take Braden Schram, he was moving up on the boards, an athlete, former linebacker.

Schram is a great pick

I sure hope they were't looking for help on Special Teams with this draft...5 out of 7 guys can't run.
