Cats Canadian content and depth heading into the draft

So, I suppose this is the draft thread. Alright.

Well, congrats to Danny Vandervoort on being picked 3rd overall by BC. There might have been some disappointment in the Ticat "war room" after he got picked up just before they got a chance to get him.

But there is the possibility that Vandervoort might not have been plan A anyway. I was thinking that an offensive lineman would have been picked after the retirement of Girard. But we picked DL Connor McGough instead.

And Behar got picked by Edmonton after out first round pick was not used on him. I was thinking that it would be best to have the eventual replacement for Fantuz in the lineup, but maybe the team just saw McGough as the best player available at the time.

#Ticats take University of Calgary DE Connor McGough at No. 4. That's an off-the-board pick. #CFL

#Ticats take Connor McGough, great motor, an athlete, good hand to hand combat. Can play on teams.

The #Ticats have a Canadian DE in Justin Capicciotti so the McGough pick gives them ratio flexibility. #CFL #CFLDraft

Interesting tweets. I suppose he'll be used on STs at first and may have potential to be a starter later. We'll see.

I suppose an OL will be picked later.

#Ticats had a trade ready to get Vandervoort. Austin says it fell through and he got the best player on his board in McGough. #CFLDraft #CFL

More information on McGough:

Marshall Ferguson says this here: http://www.cfl.ca/2017/04/13/ferguson-b ... prospects/

20. Calgary DE Connor McGough (NR -> NR -> 20)

Previously unranked, McGough had a really nice showing in 1-on-1s at the national combine and showed unique movement skills. At just over 6 feet tall and 247 pounds, it’s likely that McGough is a hybrid end and special teamer quickly.

The Calgary Dinos head coach said this:

"Connor is a great athlete, with a lot of power and strength," said Dinos' head coach Wayne Harris Jr. "He's taken coaching very well and his advantage is his speed. He's not going to be the biggest guy, but he has a great get-off and great pursuit."

He was invited to the New York Giants' mini-camp according to this: http://www.cfl.ca/2017/04/13/ferguson-b ... prospects/

Well, some Ticat scouts may have seen him play at THF during the Vanier Cup game and may have liked what they saw from him.

Disappointing start to the draft. When you draft sleepers in a draft position of a sleeper you have done well.
When you draft a sleeper when there was lots of higher quality still on the board you have reached!

Well, we pick again next. And a few OLs that this team may have wanted are now unavailable after some of the more recent picks. But they may have been expecting that in the war room.

Mac DL Fabion Foote was just picked by MTL.

So our first round pick was focused on a guy that nobody has heard of to be a warm body on ST?

Top calibre pick by a .500 coach.

Well, there's the OL pick we expected: Braden Schram, also a Calgary Dino.

John Hodge predicted that Schram would be picked 6th overall by Winnipeg in this mock draft: http://3downnation.com/2017/03/29/post- ... ock-draft/

Schram is a solid physical specimen at 6’3, 311 who put up solid testing numbers and had a respectable showing in the combine’s one-on-ones. Schram’s best asset is his passion for the game, something that will garner strong consideration from the Bomber brain trust.

So who will this team pick next? Maybe just whoever they consider the best available player at the time, regardless of position. They are probably discussing who that player might be and what to do in certain scenarios in the war room pictured above.
