Weight training is definitely a great idea. And, actually, don't worry about the "stunt your growth" thing because that's a myth.

Not only will it not stunt your growth, but it will increase the strength in both your muscles and your bones.

The key is doing it correctly...because you're smaller, start off with lighter weights and more reps. Increase the weight over time and don't try and start off with too much in the beginning or you may hurt yourself.

It's also important to do a warm up and cool down, so you reduce the risk of injury. But weight training will help you a lot.
