Attack on British Parliament

Attack on British Parliament

by TravelPat1 » Wed Mar 22, 2017 10:30 am

Breaking News - an apparent attack on the British Parliament. Just happened so reports are sketchy - but reports of gunshots, a dozen people injured, a car crashed into the railings on a bridge just south of Parliament.

Parliament on lockdown, Prime Minister May evacuated.

Reminds me of watching the breaking coverage from Ottawa a couple of years ago with lots of confusion. Hard to determine if this is just one person - or more than one.

It looks like a car has run down about a dozen people on the bridge just south of Westminster.

...a few years ago we traveled to the UK and rented a car...i consider myself a competent driver but that left-hand road stuff there is mindbogglingly hard...but I doubt that is what occurred here...

Really disturbing shots from a helicopter flying over showing the people down on the bridge with several ambulances and people down being treated by paramedics. I've walked along that bridge several times between visits to London and when I worked over in the London area for a couple of months several years ago.

It sounds like they may have been shooting people on the bridge as the car raced towards Parliament. Eyewitnesses describing seeing several 'bodies down on the ground after having been shot'.

From a personal perspective - relieved that over the last couple of hours via Facebook's 'I am safe' function I have heard from a number of London based friends and a niece who just weeks ago moved to London - some of whom recently posted pictures from that very Westminster Bridge - glad to see their 'I am safe' posts. Credit to Facebook for having a function like that for situations just like this.

Small piece of personal relief/good news on a grim news day where we now know the attacker (who was killed) - managed to kill 3 and at least 20 others are injured. So sad.

Summary

Police name Khalid Masood, 52, as man they believe carried out attack which left three dead and 40 injured

Theresa May pays tribute to PC Keith Palmer, who was stabbed to death in the attack, saying he "was every inch a hero"

The other victims were Aysha Frade, a college worker, and Kurt W. Cochran, a US tourist

The so-called Islamic State group claims the man was a "soldier of the Islamic State"

Met Police urges anyone worried about friends and family to call its casualty bureau on 0800 056 0944 or 020 7158 0010

Apparently the terrorist was born in Britain.

The one thing every terrorism expert agrees is what we shouldn't do - if we really want to limit future terror attacks - is create an atmosphere where even more home based Muslims become radicalized by isolating that community - which is exactly what we do with comments like that of Ryan saying 'Muslims will Muslim'.

The British people are a model of how to react to not only terrorism but war generally with how brilliant and brave they were during WWII. More recently how they dealt with IRA attacks - which were quite numerous on British soil decades ago. They did not blame and demonize all Irish - just as they refuse to blame all Muslims now as Ryan seems so intent on doing.

Oh look - our little forum anti-Muslim bigot taking a quote out of context (just lime Donald J.) to slam Muslims. What a surprise!
