CFL stadium makeovers w/pics

Owners want new stadiums/arenas. Maple Leaf Gardens was let go, who would have imagined, Montreal Forum, gone.

Red Sox and Cubs still have theirs and Dodgers, albeit Dodgers is newer. But yup, generally speaking owners want new stadiums/arenas.

As I say, Nordiques, Jets hockey in Canada but let go to the US. It's all a game at the big pro level, fans mean not a lot more than zilch. Pawns and nothing more.

Just stupid. In many respects thank goodness the CFL doesn't have too many, if any, options to relocate teams without a US based strategy. It means they actually have to think about fans in stadiums where teams are located, do to lack of choice.

There are no Canadian options for the CFL and without a US based strategy on the horizon, the league has to care about joe blow local fan attending a game in person.

Also, the perimeter construction fence is now gone so you can now walk around the whole exterior of the stadium.

I would take this stadium over BC Place Stadium any day. Just the right amount of seats so that it will sell out all the time. Calgary and Montreal need stadiums like this.

I was down in Calgary this last week and toured university of C and McMahon Stadium.

Very nice facility. Would someone from Calgary speak up?? Nice stadium used very little.
Why in the world would you spend 300 million tax payers money for a new Stadium????
Probably because owners want more cash sell more expensive seats.

On this tour we visited Edmonton's new area. Is it helpful to community. No. Is it user friendly, NO. More $300 seat. Can hardly see the ice from upper level.
.Retailers pay 3 times the rental cost for bars, retailers. Is this a deal for JOE PUBLIC.
Think not. Commonwealth Stadium is BETTER THEN ANY new stadium, maybe not BUT
average ticket price is $38 and beer $6 bucks. User friendly for sure.
New does not equate to user friendly unless you got deep pockets. New= mo money for owners.

Sorry in Edmonton it was $8 per beer. But community owner

brianjoxx,

There is nothing wrong with McMahon.

No one from Calgary is complaining. At least not to the point where we are willing to have ANY tax dollars going to build one.

Those insisting we need a new stadium are outsiders. Why they care, I do not know.

I've heard that more than a few times - Calgarians are happy with McMahon.

OK, looking at the photos, I am not clear on something.

The one end of the stadium has clear end zone seating.

I am unable to figure out what is at the other end zone section.

I am sure they are not seats, they look like levels of some sort for a reason.

What are they.

Never been to McMahon but it has a nice look to it on TV I would say as a older classic stadium.

McMahon is one of my favourite CFL road trip experiences. I know its shortcomings (the concessions aren't first-rate, crowded bathrooms, narrow walkways etc) but as a visitor, I don't really care - although I do respect those that don't care for it and attend more games than I do.

What do I like? Pretty much everything. The accessibility by transit, laissez-faire tailgate parties, awesome sight lines (it seems that 80-90% of the seats are between the goal lines - take THAT B.C. Place!), the sound system, and the general party vibe I get there.
Proud B.C. Lions season ticket holder since 1995.

The Red and White Club is in in the northern end zone. It's a two storey clubhouse, banquet hall and meeting room building. The southern end zone holds the Stamps' offices and the team dressing rooms.

Edit: Sorry I thought you were talking about McMahon for some reason.

About 24,000 of the 35,650 seats are between the goal lines.

It looks like an area branded "Pil Country". I would guess that it is standing rows with counter like a bar rail. The Jay's have one called the West Jet Flight deck. From my understanding, there is no assigned seating, and anyone with a ticket can choose to hang out there.

It will be a party section. I think it's a good use of endzone space.

You can't hang out in Pil Country with any ticket - tickets are $25/35, and you need to be 19+, as per http://www.riderville.com/single-game-tickets/ Great idea.
