Paden signs with Argos

No great loss,  he showed promise in the first year,  then he was injured and then when he returned suffered from fumbleitis.   I predict that the Argos will release him.

Wakefield highlights here. Not a strong position for Ottawa so he might have a shot there. One to watch.

March 2nd:

SIGNED:

Arenas is certainly interesting. 2nd round pick of the Chiefs in 2010

"On November 21, 2009, Javier broke Derek Abney's Southeastern Conference (SEC) record for career punt return touchdowns by returning his seventh punt return for a touchdown against the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Following his senior season, he was a first-team All-SEC selection and was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American."

Both interesting signings, former NFL CBs, probably playing hard to get another look down there.

Moton Hopkins re-signed, a popular guy in the community - good move.   Hopefully,  the injury bug is behind him.

Yeah, I wonder. I certainly don't dislike the guy but he's not one that'll get too many "wow" plays, is he?

He'll never be a double-digit sack guy but I think of him as the type that does the little things that you don't notice as much. Disrupt a short-yardage play or swat a ball down on 2nd and long.

Still, I find it odd how much they're struggling to improve that position.

Too bad about Olivier Goulet-Veilleux. He had broken his leg in two places early in the season. It would have been a hell of a story for him to come back.

I had to look him up because I wasn't sure and I landed on a French article about him. I guess when it happened, Trevor Harris went over to encourage him and was told to stay away because the injury was very disturbing. Imagine.

Not really anything to do with 2017 Transactions but this is an interesting story.
An Ottawa guy playing for the Jets decides to just walk away after earning $2 Million in the NFL.    Now selling suits.

Nice story....the guy sounds like a smart cat. I liked this part in particular:

Something Richard Seymour told me, ‘If you play in the NFL, you can set yourself up. You have a name and your name is your company.’ I use my name to do things. I had been investing, I’d bought real estate. It wasn’t like I left the game and came back to nothing. It wasn’t, ‘What the hell am I going to do now?

Yea walk away before serious injury and young enough to start a second career.
If he made $2 Million over 4 years that is a pretty good return.      If the average Canadian worker earns $50k a year,  it would take them 40 years to earn $2 Million!!

Post mini camp trimmings.

RELEASED:
- National offensive lineman Kyle Fraser-Audit (Guelph)
- National kicker Sean Decloux (Maine)
- International defensive back Jonte Green (New Mexico State)
- International defensive lineman Miles Grooms (Hampton)
- International running back Darius Hammond (Charleston Southern)
- International receiver John Harris (Texas)
- International defensive lineman Paul Hazel (Western Michigan)
- International linebacker Jeremiah Kose (Montana)
- International defensive back Wayne Lyons (Michigan)
- International running back Brandon Ross (Maryland)
- International receiver Antoine Smithson (Utah)
- International running back Shadrach Thornton (North Carolina State)
- International receiver Rahsaan Vaughn (Oregon)

Nothing too shocking there...John Harris was living off one big NCAA year. Paul Hazel failed to replace Aston Whiteside last year as a late pick up. I thought Vaughn might be a nice surprise at receiver but at that deep a position, it was a tough hill to climb.  Both Canadians could be brought back if required by injury.
