I had a hand made wallet made by an old girlfriend in therapy.  Lasted a good couple of decades.  Maybe someone should make a movie about it. heh heh
Do you wish your relationship with her had lasted as long as the wallet?  :)

naah.  I still had it when I met my wife.  I always knew with every girlfriend that it was temp.  Just like I knew my wife was the one when I met her.  I think they may have made some movies about that.

Annihilation (2018 )

Lena's husband is a soldier who has been missing for a year.  One day he appears but he isn't himself.  Lena discovers he was sent into a strange vortex (the "shimmer") and she volunteers to go in - in the hope of finding out what happened to him while he was away.

She, and 4 other women, enter the "shimmer" and what follows is sci-fi craziness that is impossible to explain - other than to say it is beautiful and very scary.

I usually hate sci-fi endings, but this one isn't bad.  I usually hate sci-fi films, but this one is very good.

Interesting. To Johnny, it looked like some kind of "girl power" semi political movie.

  Watched Annihilation it was okay it did keep me interested or curious . Did not like the ending nor being left in the dark about what it was about . Understood some of what they wanted but way too many unanswered questions to truly enjoy it .

Red Sparrow 2018

 Another Jennifer Lawrence Picture in this she plays the main female lead who is forced to change careers . The movie is about a Russian spy who is trained in sexual and want manipulation of males and females to exploit their weakness for the purpose of obtaining top secret information.

 There is a good thorough background story and good character development in the movie . It begins slow but ends with a bang . Good twists and fair enough writing for such a dark picture . If you plod  thru the movie you are rewarded in the end to a satisfactory conclusion .

I expected the same thing.  However, as I watched, it faded - which made me happy.  :)  They certainly don't hit you over the head with it.

That's fair.

I went in with VERY low expectations :

* I expected what Johnny expected - a feminism lesson;
* Ton of action and crazy twists;

and I got neither so that certainly helped.

I didn't hate the ending but, again, when it comes to sci-fi, the ending are usually so "out-there", I was pleased with an ending that was more reserved.

As for all my friends, I was the only one who liked this movie.  Most thought it was weird and a let down.

As I said many times, when it comes to movies, low expectations are a blessing.

Stillwater (2018 ) :

The clichés in Stillwater are endless :

* The film opens with one character being grilled by the police - and, of course, he's looking shaken, while talking directly into the camera;
* The story is told in flashback;
* The police (a good cop and a bad cop) don't believe him and bicker;
* The characters go on a trip where there is no cell phone reception;
* One character is a jokester, one is a druggy, one is a ex-soldier with PTSD, one is a movie star, one is a doctor, and one is just an idiot.  All of them are annoying;
* The characters bond in a way that is loud, phony and forced;
* Someone is killed;
* The characters have an absurd reason why they can't call the police;
* They fight and accuse each other of the crime;
* We are led to believe one character did it, then another, then another;
* (*Spoiler*) The person telling the story is the killer and his tale is B.S.

The acting in Stillwater is beyond bad - especially the soldier with PTSD.  The dialogue sounds improvised, and the story is a mishmash of other better movies.

Avoid this waste of time.

Hounds Of Love (2017) :

I lasted 30 minutes.  Then I turned off this misogynistic torture porn.

Hounds Of Love is NOT for me.  I hope you avoid it, too.

0/10
(* Full Disclosure : I thought this was a Zombie movie.   I was very wrong. *)

Eat Me (2018 ) :

It's a toss up between Hounds Of Love and Eat Me, as to which is the most misogynistic film I have seen in recent years.  The difference : H.O.L. is misogynistic torture porn, Eat Me is misogynistic rape porn.

Just like with Hounds Of Love, I got thru 30 minutes and turned it off.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

A Fantastic Woman (2017) :

As per wiki...

"Marina, a trans woman, is a singer and waitress. She has just moved in with her lover, Orlando. One night, Orlando wakes up feeling very unwell. Unable to stand up, he collapses and falls down a staircase. Marina rushes him to a hospital, but Orlando dies, apparently from a brain aneurysm. Marina is viewed with suspicion both by the doctors and Orlando's family. A detective comes to the restaurant where Marina works, and asks Marina questions suggesting that Orlando's death had resulted from a physical altercation between the two of them. Meanwhile, Orlando's ex-wife and Orlando's son forbids Marina from attending the wake or the funeral. Marina struggles for the right to be herself in spite of the allegations. And to make matters worse, the exclusions might have more to do with her identity rather than the death of Orlando."

A Fantastic Woman is sad yet uplifting, and it opens your eyes to the discrimination  / hate the transgender community experience.

While I would have removed some of the excesses - excesses that keep me from rating it an 8, I really enjoyed this movie.

 Brawl in Cell Block 99 - 2017

  You might take a few seconds to recognize Vince Vaughn in this grind house type
movie of over the top violence with a slant on prison life that is taken from someone's imagination .

 It was entertaining for the most part it begins slow and burns a quiet smouldering fire within Vaughn's character . He plays a man that works for criminals but has a moral compass that morality causes him to place his own welfare below what he believes the right thing to do . This one action which will be seen by the viewer as bizarre in a way ; hurts the film in a small way but you learn to accept this version
of how he ends up in prison .

 The violence is on the gory side and not for everyone . You would have to like the
grind house movies that came before it to accept the violent action as necessary .
Don Johnson also plays the role as the warden of the prison in this dark universe .

A 7 out of 10 as it did keep you watching to see more even if the story was twisted .

Game Night (2018 ) :

6 friends get together for a "game night" that gets out of hand.

If you ignore the fact than none of it makes sense, the script is surprisingly smart and funny.

Rachel McAdams steals the show.

Movie Trailer :

  Loved the first 35 minutes very funny . The last 35 minutes were like many comedies it falls flat . Not sure why it seems all comedies need to find a nice ending
and crazy three stooges action with ridiculous action sequences to finish .
It ends up ruining up to that point a funny picture . No need for  morality plays in movies or Die Hard type analogies to keep the viewer interested . You end up just watching and thinking didn't I see Bateman in other movies doing the exact same thing . Boring , repetitive and predictable . What makes comedies funny is unpredictable humour .

  I am sure I am not the only person thinking why is a 50 year old Justin Bateman and 40 year old Rachel Mc Adams wondering if it's too soon to have kids . The premise or backstory was not only unnecessary the jokes surrounding don't even once attempt one joke at their age or even the silly premise behind it .

  I give it a 6 out of 10 as the first half of the movie was definitely worth it for yuks .

I THINK I gave it a 5 - honestly can't remember.  I enjoyed it until the end - when it got really silly.
