There is no risk in signing Freeman. If he sucks in training camp, he will be cut and nothing will have been lost.

It would still be nice if Reed found some young QBs for training camp.
True, beats letting Tillman rob him blind for Manziel's rights.
Reed can still get robbed by Tillman! According to Herb, Wetenhall is interested in Manziel.

"On the other hand, people around the Canadian Football League continue maintaining the Als have lost none of their interest in Johnny Manziel, the former Cleveland Brown who’s on Hamilton’s negotiation list. The Als would have to put together a significant offer to trade for Manziel’s rights, likely starting with the first overall draft selection in this May’s Canadian college draft.

Manziel seems unlikely to sign with the Tiger-Cats, at least immediately. Not only does he have a brief history at Texas A&M with new Montreal head coach Mike Sherman, but Als owner Robert Wetenhall is believed to covet Manziel, knowing his presence would renew waning interest in the team while selling tickets at Molson Stadium and across the league."

It takes time to develop a QB.

Mike Reilly: NFL practice roster in 2009. Signed as a free agent by BC in 2010. Third string QB. In 2011 BC backup QB. Traded to Edmonton in 2013 and then was a starter.

Bo-Levi Mitchell: Signed by Calgary in 2012. Backup QB. 2013. Backup QB. Start in 3 games. Became a starter in 2014.

Zach Collaros: Toronto in 2012. Started game in 2013. Then to Hamilton.

Trevor Harris: Spent time in NFL times. Signed by Argos in 2012.  Started games in 2015.

Jeremiah Masoli: 2011. UFL. 2012 Edmonton. 2013 backup in Hamilton as in 2014. Dressed for only 6 games in 2015 and 8 in 2016. Became a starter second half of 2017 season.

As you can see, young QB's don't become starters overnight.

I agree Josh Freeman may not/probably will not be the short or  long term answer to the Als QB situation, but I would like to know, from the ones that keep "shooting" /throw mud at what Kavis tries to do to improve the team, what is your answer/recommendation for the QB position.

The other day when Kavis was interviewed by Dave Naylor (I posted the link), he said it was time to develop a young QB, and live with the growing pains.

Ten minutes later he signs Josh Freeman. Freeman didn`t sign to be a backup, that`s why he didn`t sign last year. So tell me Richard how can you have confidence in Kavis and trust what he says?

By the way, I`m not necessarily against signing Freeman, I`m curious to see how he will do. I guess at this stage I will take any warm body at QB.

Mike Reilly was competent in his second year in BC. Some QB's get it by their second season. Franklin, Jennings...First year is a write-off unless your Ricky Ray.  But at 29 Freeman is not what I would consider a finished QB.  He's never sustained any major injuries. This is a good signing by the Als. There is no sure thing for a CFL QB prospect. But he managed to start in the NFL for four years and had two very good seasons. He can run for six yard pickup at will IMO in the CFL. I like this a lot better than  the Manziel parlor trick, the Wettenhall are tyring to con the fans into.
Everything I write is just an opinion formed from various sources. Some more reliable than others, it is expressed as a composite of facts, innuendos, emotions, personal experiences and complete fabulation into a gumbo for entertainment purposes alone.

Never, ever trust Kavis Reed.

So Mike Reilly was competent in his second season in BC.

Signed in 2010 and third string QB.

2011: Backup QB.  Saw action in 1 game.

2012: Saw action in 6 games (three starts)

To me it was only in 2013, in Edmonton, where he displayed his competence.

You read stats page instead of watching games. signed in BC during the 2010 season after being cut by Seattle and he started winning games in 2012. That's two years.

Shouldn't matter which way the Als go. They aren't making the post season in 2018 with Freeman, Manziel or Ricky Ray. So they need to find a way to convince fans that they are building the right way. Freeman is as good as anybody they can do that with.

RichardVeilleux

Started winning games in 2012-three starts- Third season in BC. 2010 is 1, 2011 is 2 and 2012 is year 3.  He was 27 years old.

Bye,bye Darian Durant.

Mike Reilly three starts in 2012 were:

Week 17, against Edmonton. BC won 39-19. Reilly was 19/26, 276 yards. 2 TD's and 1 Int.

Week 18 against Calgary. BC lost 41-21. Reilly was 19/26 for 261 yards. 2 TD's

Week 19 against Saskatchewan.  BC won 17-6. Reilly was 10/13 for 103 yards.

If Durant is released, it is normal to sign a Josh Freeman and see what he can do.

The national talent and the QB's was in a mess when Jim Popp did leave and we can't blame Kavis Reed for all the problems. When I read some comments about Reed it reminds me of the proverb: " Quand on veut noyer son chien, on dit qu'il a la rage".

Richard
The QB was a mess when Popp left?

I would say that Reed kept that mess in tact then.

Three starts and almost as many wins as the Aloutettes all last year. Everyone who saw those games, knew he was the real deal.

okie

Herb Zurkowsky posted that he has heard from multiple sources that there is a good chance Darian Durant restructures his contract as the Als need a CFL veteran QB on the roster.

Als obviously need a backup plan in case Freeman is not the answer.  Freeman was not exactly highly sought after as he was dropped by both Calgary and Ottawa last year and was on nobody's neg list for about 6 months..
