From Herb Zurkowsky:

The Als, of course, are seeking a head coach. The leading candidate, according to sources, remains DeVone Claybrooks. The Calgary Stampeders defensive coordinator will be interviewed in Montreal this weekend by general manager Kavis Reed. If Claybrooks and the Als can’t agree to terms or reach some kind of impasse, sources indicate the job will be offered to B.C. Lions defensive coordinator Mark Washington.

Should Claybrooks get the Als’ job, don’t be surprised if he hires (Bryan) Chiu and (Travis) Moore as two of his assistants. Reed likes Claybrooks because he believes he can relate to players. That holds true of Chiu and Moore as well.

When Reed requested permission from the Redblacks to interview coaches, it was immediately assumed he had (Jaime) Elizondo in his crosshairs. But Elizondo told the Montreal Gazette Thursday night he hasn’t been contacted by Reed.

“I don’t know that you’re ever ready to be a head coach or not. You learn from every step of the way,” Elizondo said. “When that opportunity’s presented you’re faced with it. But right now it hasn’t been presented.

“Right now, it’s not my concern because I haven’t been contacted by them.”

Instead, Reed requested permission from Ottawa to speak with Chiu and Moore.

Story also mentions that the Als are meeting with Claybrooks this weekend in Montreal.  Meanwhile, Justin Dunk stands by his story from a week ago that there was contact between the parties before the Grey Cup.

Team announced earlier today that Jonathon Mincy has been released early so he could pursue NFL opportunities.  Yesterday, Tyree Hollins, Taylor Russolino, Travis Hawkins and KJ Morton were all let go.

Kavis lives in Edmonton, Cla y lives in Calgary, I guess they are traveling to Montreal so Claybrooks can interview for Andrew.  :P
Everything I write is just an opinion formed from various sources. Some more reliable than others, it is expressed as a composite of facts, innuendos, emotions, personal experiences and complete fabulation into a gumbo for entertainment purposes alone.

"Instead, Reed requested permission from Ottawa to speak with Chiu and Moore."

There is no HC, and the GM is talking to Chiu and Moore to be assistant coaches. Shouldn't Reed hire a HC, then the HC hires his assistants?

Or is this confirmation a HC has been hired (but not announced), and Reed is asking permission from Ottawa so the HC can interview them?

Something else Isn't it? Then Ottawa fires the lot of them for playing games with Kavis.

Niagara Als

From Herb Zurkowsky :

Two sources have told the Montreal Gazette the organization could promote (Kavis) Reed to vice-president (football operations) and hire John Murphy as their GM. Murphy is Saskatchewan’s assistant vice-president (football operations) and player personnel. If (DeVone) Claybrooks is named head coach, he would hire Rich Stubler as his defensive coordinator.

Justin Dunk believes the Claybrooks interview will be done this weekend.

Website roster has been update to include everybody that was previously on the injured lists and practice squads.  Of note, Chip Cox (previously retired), Raymon Taylor (suspended), and Jacory Harris (disabled list?) are among those listed.
That would possibly be good news. But, Reed will hire the HC (with the Wetenhall's input...), then be promoted, and the new GM would inherit a new HC, that was hired with none of his input.

The new GM will be stuck with a new HC he did not choose. This is not how successful teams do things...  ::)
You are right Johnny Reeds actions have to be questioned. A HC should be the person to hire his assistants. Is Reeds action premature or has the team already hired a HC?What is Reed doing talking with the Redblacks assistant coaches. This seems unusual to me. Perhaps Reed is now negotiating with HC candidates? We need some clarity here.

As Marcel Bellefeuille and Tommy Condell are Receiver coaches, the Als could be interviewing them for the possibility of being an OC more so than as a HC.

Only thing that would make any sense is if he was talking to them as a ruse to investigate Jaime Elizondo as a possible HC.
Let's  not confuse FACTS with OPINIONS

Still an issue (IMO) if the HC isn't yet hired.

Their departures were rumored in Ottawa at least a week or more before it was announced, perhaps even before the Grey Cup.  Doubt the firings have anything to do with Reed.  Despite Grey Cup win last year, the team has been sub-.500 for two seasons ... likely Campbell shuffling deck chairs in order to be seen to "do something".

Possibly, still they were let go after the Reed requested permission to speak with them. Which likely means they told Campbell they were interested in talking to Reed.

But the bottom line is that it still makes absolutely no sense if the Als "Have alignment" as Reed loves to say, that he is interviewing candidates to coordinator or position coaches. The only thing that would make sense is that he already has a HC in place secretly since before the end of the season and that HC has given him a list. Or he is saying but doing something else.

Was in no way defending Reed possibly interviewing assistants (as I said elsewhere: Still an issue (IMO) if the HC isn't yet hired); just that Desjardins and Campbell were making typical moves after a losing season.

Argos’ Corey Chamblin declines Alouettes head coach interview

We do not know if Corey Chamblin declined because he wanted no part of the Als or he felt the team was not seriously considering him as a HC.

Supposedly, 6'5" 220lb WR Jack Bramswig has signed.  Bramswig was an All-Conference basketball player at Division 3 Manhattanville.  After his basketball eligibility expired, Bramswig transferred to Boston College to play football.  His only college football experience was 3 games in 2015, all on Special Teams.  Bramswig has spent the last 2 years playing with the Green Bay Blizzard of the IFL.  A teammate of his at Green Bay was QB Greg McGhee.

As you wrote, okie, we don't know if Corey Chamblin declined an interview because he was not interested or because the Als did not seem that interested in him. Herb had previously written that DeVone Claybrooks was the "favorite" and if it did not work out, Mark Washington DC of BC was the second choice.

I could be wrong, but I expect news this week regarding the next Head Coach and some members of the coaching staff.

Thank you for signing information,okie.

You are right we do not know. Would you want to leave a GC team where the organization is stable, solid GM and HC and core group of players for another chance as HC and a great big cloud of uncertainty?

Chamblin was a HC and that did not fare well.

Been there done that expression comes to mind.
